I’m honestly dumbfounded how this property maintains a 5-star rating. In my opinion, this was closer to a 4-star hotel with a 3-star breakfast.||Service & Communication:|Communication was lacking — I emailed the hotel prior to arrival with a question and never received a response. Bell service was inconsistent and not always present at the entrance. I called the front desk with a very simple request and the male staff member who answered was abrupt and dismissive — a far cry from the attentive, polished service expected at a 5-star hotel.||Breakfast:|At check-in, staff boasted about the breakfast, but our experience fell short of expectations. Guests crowded into the buffet before the official opening time, completely bypassing the rope. The vibe reminded me more of a cruise ship buffet: large crowds, average quality.||Coffee was poor.||Bananas were cut in half with brown edges — not appealing.||Scrambled eggs were mushy and watery.||No hard-boiled eggs, only medium.||No breakfast potatoes, just processed rounds.||Dirty plates were left sitting; staff didn’t clear tables promptly.||No explanation of egg-ordering options — I only realized this was possible by watching others.||Room:|The room had multiple issues that negatively affected my comfort:||Noise from neighboring rooms was disruptive late at night.||Confusing light switches — unnecessarily complicated.||Pillows were flat and hard, and the AC wasn’t strong enough, making the room uncomfortably warm at night. The duvet was much too heavy for the conditions.||Robes were extremely small — shockingly so — not practical for most adults.||Carpet was stained.||No USB ports for charging devices.||Bathroom lacked hooks for clothes and had no lock on the door.||Shower design allowed water to leak all over the floor, and there was nowhere to place toiletries other than on the floor.||No peep hole or bolt lock on the main door — not ideal for privacy or security.||Only two tiny plastic water bottles were provided — and at €4.50 each, and they were placed next to the coffee tray in a way that suggested they were complimentary.||Tip: There were no washcloths/face cloths in the room — this may be typical in some countries, but if you use them, bring your own.||Final Thoughts:|This hotel did not meet the standards of a true 5-star property. While there were some positives, the service and facilities left much to be desired. I hope the management takes these issues seriously, as the current experience does not reflect the quality or comfort one expects...
Read moreLast year, during a trip to Ljubljana, I spotted the Grand Plaza Hotel at night and instantly put it on my bucket list. From the outside, you can already sense the luxury, the space, and the comfort inside. This year, I had the chance to enjoy a two-day stop in Ljubljana, and I took the opportunity to book a night in this hotel. I was not disappointed. It’s not cheap, especially if you choose the junior suite, but the service is truly worthy of 5 stars. The check-in process is incredibly smooth. The valet parking is super efficient: they quickly help you unload your car, park it for you, and bring it back whenever you need it. Your bags are delivered directly to your room, so you arrive with nothing to worry about. You just hand over your keys, and everything is taken care of. Once you get used to this, it feels strange when the next hotel doesn’t offer it. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and the beds are exceptionally comfortable, just like the pillows. The TV is internet-connected, and while there is no Netflix or Amazon Prime, there is YouTube, where you can connect your own account in just a couple of minutes using your phone. It’s quick, easy, and very convenient. If I really had to find one small downside, it’s that the bathroom towels weren’t as soft as I’d like, but that’s a minor detail compared to everything else. The view over the city is lovely, and the breakfast is simply outstanding: a buffet with everything you can think of, all made with good quality ingredients. The service is excellent at every level. Whatever you need, the staff will do their best to find a solution, and everyone is genuinely friendly. In the middle of summer, it is expensive, but with its perfect location, just a short walk from the city center and all the main...
Read moreI am currently staying at the Grand Plaza Hotel, and my experience has been extremely disappointing. When I first entered my room, the toilet was clearly not hygienic — there were visible fecal stains from the previous guest, which is absolutely unacceptable for a hotel at this price level.
The overall cleanliness of the room is also far below expectations: the carpet is dirty, with a large stain right at the entrance. I found hair between the towels and dust and small debris inside the wardrobe.
Despite paying over €240 per night for a “Grand” room, the quality and service were nowhere near what the name or price suggests. I specifically requested a single large bed, but was told the hotel was full and was given a twin room instead. I was promised a call back the next day about changing the room, but no one ever followed up.
When I brought up the issue again in the morning, the reception only said they would “clean the room better,” and refused to change it.
What makes this even more disappointing is that I’m here with a large delegation for an important meeting, so changing hotels is unfortunately not an option. For such an occasion, I expected far better hygiene, service, and professionalism.
Paying such a high price for this level of cleanliness and service is simply unacceptable. Never again. There are many hotels that offer far better cleanliness, care, and respect for guests — at a much...
