We went as a family of 4 last Saturday for my husband's 59th Birthday, for which I made reservations. Being an X Duty manager of lodge restaurant, I was quite shocked at how very loud and badly behaved the staff was. Complete and utter disregard for us as we entered, they first had to finish their loud discussion or argument before they eventually greeted us. The staff in general thought nothing of loudly communicating to each other over their shoulders as they passed each other when carrying trays of food to tables. I wondered if spit ended up on the food. On 2 seperate occasions my daughter and I witnessed staff stuffing bread in her mouth on her way to be behind the bar counter. The men behind the bar started breaking up boxes and the staff was disturbingly loud in general, so much so that our conversations with each other at our table were frequently interrupted. We sat close to the kitchen which was equally loud, but understandable. It was just quite shocking how they just kept conversing with each other about private matters. It's such a lovely establishment, well priced, although I expected some goats cheese or more cheese on the platter. The baked camembert was hard and cold, had to ask twice to bake it longer, after the 2nd attempt I just gave up with unmelted unspreadable cheese and we had to ask for a knife to cut the bread with. The bread of the platter came with 2 rock hard unspreadable wedges of butter, and we should've had steak knives to battle with the bread. My son thoroughly enjoyed his very filling burger, which I definately recommend. In general food is very well priced, delicious and I'd love to go there again, but the staff needs some serious training on etiquette, manners, behaviour and conduct. It's unacceptable for...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting breakfast had at The Goatshed on Thursday, 24 November 2022. Firstly the waitress could barely understand anything we said to her, she had no idea of the menu and just seemed all round unqualified to be serving customers.
The fruit medley juice we ordered tasted as if it had been watered down. Our breakfasts arrived with no resemblance to what was ordered off the menu. The "Eggs Benedict" had raw shredded Swiss chard on it (not ordered) and a strange curry taste that over overpowered everything. The "Croque Madame" arrived pale, cold, rubbery, unseasoned, on stale bread with no egg. The bacon so overcooked it was like eating leather. A few minutes later I was presented with a plate of watery scrambled egg, and an extra ortion of Bacon that I did NOT order. We also had ordered a portion of fried to share. They were served with an ICE cold tomato sauce.
If I was the Chef I would be ASHAMED of what is coming out of that kitchen. So much beutiful produce at your finger tips and you still manage to send out absolute rubbish, poor quality food for Cape Town Winelands...
Read moreWe are regular visiters to Goatshed and have always enjoyed eating there but we were very dissapointed this Saturday. We loved their camberbert for two people and actually told a lot of people about it and have had friends come and enjoy it too. However now they have changed it. The price is now R98 but we would stil have paid it but the camberbert is now crusted and fried, not baked. It does not taste good at all and you get this small camberbert with 2 very small slices of a ciabatta, a salad with tomatoes that are deffinetly old and an onion relish that is not tasteful at all. When we asked for more bread, we got 4 small slices which was still not a good size meal. I have attached the first pic of what we got and the other 2 pics is of how this meal looked before. It was tasteful, well presented and something special. To us it was a romantic idea to share a meal in such a special setting but now you feel that they really do not cater for locals. This was a real dissapointment to us and now we will have to tell everyone not to go to Goatshed as you might feel done...
