It was our second visit to the restaurant in two months. My first was impressive so I expected a great experience and I has someone new in the party. New to sushi who believes that it could only taste bad. Upon arrival everything seemed as I remembered but alas the staff started bickering with me about a special they apparently no longer had.We ordered two sushi buffets and a loin ribs and drinks. My daughter and i ordered from the menu and a cocktail it had turned turned 4 on the clock according to our waitress. My daughter had one round from the belt of the white plates and waited for the tempura style sushi she had ordered. And waited and waited eventually the waitress showed up and went to the window and found flies sitting on the food and had them prepare a new order when she eventually brought the food the order was not correct and she took the food back and we continued to wait. By this time my daughter had lost her appetite. It was now 4:45. Forty five minutes later we had finished our meals and she had lost her appetite when we called the same waitress to tell her my daughter had lost her appetite we do not want the food anymore because they had taken so long she told us that we had to pay for the meal. She offered to speak to the manager as we had to pay 10 rand a piece of sushi the manager according to the waitress said the rules can not be changed even though they were at fault she then returned to say we should pay for at least four pieces. We declined and force feed ourselves. It was a horrible experience. Since I am so active on social media as an influencer I will be discouraging everyone from having to experience what we did. I will glady return to my old sushi eatery on the beachfront with that amazing view and amazing service and atmosphere. Bad service is inexcusable. The customer is always right that is...

I am in disbelief with the rude service we received today.

For the longest time myself and my family have been supporting Toro and having only the sushi buffets. We’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries there and received friendly service and decent food.

We’ve shared tables with friends and their babies, feeding our babies veggies, fruit, snacks from other stores so many times but today it was a problem with Etienne, the manager.

While placing our buffet order, the waitress sees a kids portion of veggies from Spur. She tells us she will double check with her manager, (so the waitress isn’t clued up about the policy or does it only apply to certain people? or depending on Etiennes mood? or whatever else was on his mind today) he looks at our table, she returns and says it’s not allowed.

I request to see the manager, when he gets to our table, I asked him if we are not allowed to feed our 1 year old butternut and he abruptly said no. I tried explaining that we have done that many times before and Etienne tells me that it’s the policy and it’s like that at all other restaurants. He doesn’t introduce himself, he doesn’t give a solution or a compromise, just pure rudeness. Basically tells us to leave.

We call them back, we are told to log onto Facebook for an email address that we need to contact to get the policy. We are also told that they will only approve the request to bring food for a baby on prior arrangements.

There’s no policy on their website, nothing in store. Etienne is not available, suppose he is creating this policy and putting it on their website now.

Look at Foo Jiu, they allow...

We decided to take an out-of-town friend to Toronto on Boxing Day to try out their sushi buffet. We arrived at 1:30 and sat outside - 30 minutes later and 4 waiters ignoring us led us to having to flag one down to ask for some service. A waiter came to our table to say they would be assisting us as our waiter “could not make it”. Bear in mind that there were about 3 tables occupied outside and about 10 occupied inside. Cut to us ordering - all opting for the buffet - having to wait an hour for the first round had us deciding to order the second round as we received the first. Another one hour later and we were approached by our waiter informing us we were “10th in line” and they weren’t sure how long the food would take. We queried this as we could barely see 10 tables occupied and had already been waiting an hour. 3 hours, 1 round of sushi and we were told we would have to wait as the staff “could be hungover”. We told them we couldn’t wait as we had other plans and had to go. A manager then came to ask if we were sure we wanted to cancel - we again explained that we couldn’t wait for an indefinite amount of time when it had already been 3 hours. We received an apology and a R1300 bill for 3 people. Full price sushi buffet for 16 pieces. Cheating patrons by not providing what they paid for is the poorest level of service. Awful experience with no remedy provided...

Went to Toro sushi for first time in about 3 years. I stopped going after I found my waiter was charging me adult rates for my 9 year old, pocketing the difference I assume. Not the establishments fault. Toro was its usual spotlessly clean neat and tidy as I remember it and the waiter was a lovely young lady that took care of us very well. The manager came over had a chat, was nice - as Toro always is. My gripe? - The Sushi ! It was so " blhe ! " Honestly nothing on the belt could really be called salmon this or tuna that, it should all be named Rice with a hint of Salmon or a suggestion of Tuna. Look I know the fish is costly, but like really, you need to be on another skill level to be able to slice the fish that thin, you can mostly see through it. I like sitting at the Sushi bar choosing plates off the belt, but there was like two choices, rolls and sandwich's either with the thinnest slice of fish you can cut before it falls apart. Look at the photo the sashimi is so thin that the rice whiteness comes through it.

Toro is an extraordinary sushi sanctuary that transcends the ordinary dining experience, where every dish is a vibrant celebration of culinary artistry. From the moment we walked in, we were enveloped by an ethereal ambiance and the passionate hospitality of George, our phenomenal waiter, who guided us through the exquisite menu with infectious enthusiasm. Each piece of sushi was a melt-in-your-mouth revelation, showcasing the freshness and skill of the chefs, while George’s impeccable sake pairing enhanced the flavors beautifully. The artistry of each dish left us in awe, and the sushi omakase was a culinary pilgrimage we won’t soon forget. As we savored our delightful dessert, we knew we had experienced something truly special at Toro—a haven for sushi lovers that ignites the senses and nourishes the soul. We urge the management to promote George immediately; his exceptional service and passion for the craft elevate the entire dining experience to unparalleled heights!
