Big G's Quarterdeck Pub & Grill — Restaurant in Gauteng

We usually go at lunchtime during the week, not crowded, waitrons are always first-class, friendly, polite and very efficient. It's been about 4 months now that they haven't had food specials, apparently the computet system is new and they haven't been able to work out the system - 4 months! We have had very good food here, breakfast plate and omelette is excellent and huge, fries are very good, tuna salad is fantastic - very fresh, not just piles of lettuce and little else - lots of tomato, hard boiled egg, onion, cucumber and tuna with the lettuce. Here's my big disappointment - had the steak, egg and chips 3 times and won't have it again. There's a choice of tenderised steak (R120) or rump which costs more but I can't remember the price. Note, I always have steak well done, but stress that this means cooked through, not overdone - anywhere I go and 90% of restaurants get it right and it's not tough. First time here I ordered the tenderised steak it was large, very tender and tasty, their fries are always good and the over easy egg was perfect. Second time I ordered the same but mistakenly got the rump, it was not overcooked but was very tough nevertheless - more to do with the meat itself, not the cooking time. Third time I got the tenderised steak, it was much smaller than previous and so tough, even cutting it into thin slivers was like eating biltong, it was so overcooked that the edges were hard enough to actually snap off. Egg and fries were good as usual. We were hungry, didn't have a lot of time and as the new waiter never came back to ask if all was ok I just ate it. Well, two thirds of it and then gave up. I did complain about it to him when he came to clear our plates and said he would report it but I had my doubts about him. This is within the last two months that I've had the steak on and off, the last time being last Monday 4th of August. Lastly, since we've been going there for the past 4 months every couple of weeks, we've seen a man that I assumed was either the manager or owner (found out last Monday that he's the manager),, and this man has not only never once come to ask how we're doing, is everything ok etc but he has not even greeted us once. The lovely waitrons recognise us and all greet us but not the manager, never even says hello even if he walks right past our table. The food was amazing. Large portions for really good price. Amos served us, an upstanding, respectful worker. The whole vibe was relaxing and what u need when u need to chill, watch sport and have a great time. The entire staff and atmosphere was really excellent. Will definitely make this one of my regular spots. Very central and in a nice quiet area of Benoni. I would definitely recommend this diner/bar as a great place to take friends/family to hang out... plenty of entertainment.... pool tables, gambling machines. I give it a 10 out of 10💯💯💯💯💯....
