My partner and I visited Vuyos in Soweto on a Saturday afternoon, drawn in by their seemingly professional and polished website. The images and reviews online promised quality and cleanliness, creating high expectations. However, upon arrival, it was immediately clear that the management and maintenance of the establishment had significantly declined. The stark discrepancy between the website’s portrayal and the reality was disappointing.

Despite our initial doubts, we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience only worsened from there. The food was substandard, with the salad - primarily wilted lettuce - appearing unappetizing and possibly reused. The drinks were equally underwhelming; my Soweto Gold craft beer was flat and lacked freshness, reminiscent of a poorly stored Castle Light.

The pricing added insult to injury. The bill rivaled what one might expect at a premium establishment like Monte Casino, yet the quality and experience fell woefully short of justifying the cost. Hygiene and presentation were sorely lacking, leaving a lasting negative impression.

Regrettably, the consequences of our visit extended beyond the poor dining experience. Both my partner and I suffered severe stomach cramps and diarrhea the following day, with her still feeling very ill even a day and a half later. This raises serious concerns about the restaurant's food safety and hygiene standards.

While the restaurant’s location is excellent, it appears to be plagued by severe mismanagement. In light of our experience, I cannot recommend Vuyos. For those considering a dining option in the area, I strongly suggest visiting the restaurant across the street, Sakhumzi, which seems to offer a far more reliable and enjoyable experience.

The only reason I gave this review a one-star rating is that the waitress was very helpful, offering a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing visit. I hope this review helps others make an informed decision before choosing to...

A quaint venue situated along the buzzing Vilakazi Street in Orlando West, directly opposite Sakhumzi Restaurant.

Go to this restaurant to experience the thrill of Soweto - the energy is electrifying.

While your first drinks order may arrive quickly, expecting efficient service thereafter is a tall ask - there are periods where you’ll be kept waiting for a very long time for staff to attend to you. Similarly, the food isn’t amazing and there isn’t a vast amount of variety on the menu, especially if you aren’t a fan of beef or fatty meat.

While there wasn’t a DJ on the day we went, several buskers stream into the venue so there’s a great deal of entertainment on offer.

If you want a venue that’s quieter than Sakhumzi, then this venue could work for you. Either way, it’s great seeing Black businesses thriving in the townships and Vuyo’s deserves...

Very chilled but vibey place. In the heart of Vilakazi Street, a gem 💎 exists. They served us tasty food and a variety of drinks at very reasonable prices. The service is excellent. The waitrons are very pleasant and eager to serve. The view from the deck is awesome 👌🏿. There is plenty of seating, enclosed and outside. There is no ramp for persons on wheelchairs, no special bathrooms for paraplegic people. There is only one toilet for males and another one for females, which resulted in a queue for the females. The toilets are clean and well serviced. There is also no special/wheelchair friendly parking. In fact, there is no dedicated or special parking for anyone. Parking is along the pavement of Vilakazi which is lined up of businesses and restaurants, and that parking is on first come first...
