Simon’s Bar stands out as a gem for wine enthusiasts. This bar has an impressive selection of wines, showcasing a wide range of South African favorites and classics. The atmosphere is both cozy and stylish, making it an ideal spot for savoring a glass of wine while taking in the stunning views. I highly recommend taking place at the edge of the terrace, overlooking the spectacular view of South Africa’s landscape and mountains. The knowledgeable staff (for wines, ask for Alex) are keen to recommend pairings and share insights, enhancing the overall experience. While the bar primarily shines for its wine, the usual suspects regarding cocktails and mock-tails are also available. However, for those primarily interested in exploring a sophisticated and diverse wine menu in a beautiful setting, Simon’s Bar is a top choice.

Simon's is one of two restaurants located at Emily Moon River Lodge. The other one is Emily's, who's focus is more on fine dining, whereas Simon's is focused on pizza's and cocktails, and has a relaxed atmosphere. They also have some craft beers available on tap. The other patrons were a mix of friends getting together or couples going out on a romantic date - the locals hang out there as well. I had a Jack Black lager, my wife a strawberry daiquiri and we had some pizza for dinner, and I can truly say we enjoyed all of it. If you haven't been to Simon's, make a plan to visit them, you wont be disappointed.

Cool spot and vibe and the service was great! But false advertising. We got there by 6 on a Friday to get the half off cocktails from 6 to 7 that on the website they advertise having every Friday. The drinks were fast but not great especially for the price. The only mojito wasn’t even drinkable but we didn’t complain because we thought it was half off. The pizzas were okay but pretty burned on the edges. When we got the bill we were charged full price and when I asked they said just during season. Totally understandable but then don’t advertise every Friday! We would of just got a bottle of wine.

We came on Friday night happy hour specifically to sample some of Simons Bars well renowned cocktails. After reading the reviews and seeing the pictures of an extensive and varied cocktail menu (numbering maybe 8 + different drinks) we were extremely disappointed to find a menu consisting of 4 drinks only. The most exciting drink was there version of a sling with Grape fruit and Coriander however the rest were your run of the mill drinks not even an old fashioned to be seen.

The food was brilliant but unfortunately let down by a severally shrunk cocktail menu (See attached)

Update after seeing other people ordering frozen daiquiris and after asking what people were drinking our waiter told us that there are other drinks available they just are not on the happy hour menu.

The two drinks I had were:

Shaken Mojito

This was executed really well and was really well balanced between lime juice, syrup and the tequila. The only nitpick would be that it was not double strained and thus had lime pulp floating on the surface.

Grapefruit Coriander Sling

As the bars take on a Sling goes this was really good. Vegetal and silky made with grape fruit juice shaken could of used a dash of bitters or maybe a quarter ounce of simple syrup to take the edge off of the bitterness from the grape fruit...

More than a year ago we had superb pizzas at Simon's. Seeing as they've opened for lunch during the season, we went there today, expecting great pizza. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I'm now all Simoned out! The Bangladeshi pizza had loads of avo, hardly any chicken, leeks that weren't caramelized, 3 small brown dry blobs my husband identified as the brinjal, and no trace of any form of chutney. It seemed as if very little time and effort was spent on its creation - ingredients carelessly and hastily thrown on with no regard to even distribution, except for the avo. Strange, because there were only a handful of diners. I'd say the kitchen staff needs a serious shake-up. Our...
