(Note that 90% of the recent reviews here are from non-Indian people's palates). Feel bad to post less favourable reviews for hardworking family-run places in COVID but still have to be honest. The samoosas are large but not tasty. Food took really long but we didn't mind because we were advised at the outset that some staff hadn't arrived for the day so there was backlog, owner's son Sheldon served us and apologised about 10 times in our one hour visit. I asked for the veg soya biryani HOT. Sheldon joked that "be careful, this is Durban hot". I assured him that I am pukka Indian and my hubs can handle his chilli (he ordered a quarter sugar bean bunny). The biryani had NO SOYA, and was just a quick fry mix of rice, frozen veg bits and lentils with some spices...not an actual biryani at all. The food was the blandest we have ever tasted, literally zero flavour (like Nandos spicy rice is spicy compared to this) - even for a whiter palate like my hubby's. I had to ask for chillies on the side but it didn't save the rice mix that was masquerading as biryani ("Durban hot"). The quarter bunny was much smaller than a quarter loaf of bread and also very bland (look t their own pic of quarter bean bunny posted on 1 Oct compared to what they served us?). The couple at the table next to us had lamb curries and had to ask for salt!! All in all no "genuine Indian" food here by far...no matter their excuses. Maybe if their cheap Richeleu wasn't watered down I'd have liked the food a...
Read moreSo we were in the mood for some good bunny chow meaning you are in Durban afterall, as we searched on google came across this restaurant with a high rating so we decided to try it out.
Upon our arrival to the small restaurant and finding it very quiet inside (as we were the only omes there) we were hesitant to try it out, but we said lets give it a try and after placing our orders within 10-15min received our drinks and samoosas (Potato / Chicken / Beef / Corn & Cheese) + plate of crispy chips - the most delicious and fresh also largest portion samoosas we have had... then came the kids chicken mayonaise sandwishes and our ¼ Butter Chicken & Beef bunny to be amazed by the large portion size for a ¼ bunny wooow. Might also add asked for a hot Beef bunny and we got one wooow was it delicious and the Butter Chicken was good spiced and creamy.
Rajin was always happy to assist even had a short chat with him after about the restaurant and we will definitely be returning there next time we are here again, think we will try the Briyani as it is also a popular dish.
You wont be sorry to try this place out as we ended up glad we did even walking out with full stomachs ouch good last meal for our last day here.
P.S- Unfortunately no photos as the food looked to good to eat no time wasting for...
Read moreUnfortunately I went with the 5-star reviews on this place and got the 1-star experience. After walking up and down lookin for someone to help when we arrived, the supposed owner eventually came back from outside and took our order. Had briyani, tool quite a while to prepare, pity that (like another poster also said) it was just rice with mixed veg and a few pieces of meat. Bland, no colour, hardly even salted. Chicken was not skinned / deboned and food was ultimately tasteless. I asked for extra hot briyani and only a few slices of green chillies were added... Not authentic Indian food by a long shot. Very unfortunate as we really looked forward to Indian food on our trip but was completely put off after this meal. I woke up at 02.00 the next morning nauseated with a very upset stomach as an...
