Service was absolutely PATHETIC!!! The waiters had absolutely no clue what the were doing. I was there for brunch with a bunch of friends and my friend got the wrong dish before our waiter came and said that he got the wrong dish ( he ordered the chicken tacos and apparently they gave him the fish - not even the waiters knew whether it was chicken or fish ). He had already touched it and started squeezing the lemon over it and so the waiter asked him to smell it to see if it was chicken or fish and then after he said he is unsure, the waiter said no it's fine and then proceeded to ask if he had eaten any and my friend said no and then they took the SAME food and gave it to another table. THE VERY SAME PLATE. My friend didn't even end up getting his food and canceled the order after we had all received and eaten all our food. They even charged him for the meal he didn't receive!!
We had to beg the waiter to actually bring the drinks we ordered. I think I asked him for a coke zero about four times and that was just me. The same thing happened to my friends with their drink orders.
The cherry on the top of the cake was that the menu price of the starter calamari was R135 and the main calamari was R185 or around that however, on the bill they charged us R185 and R220 respectively and when we questioned the waiter and manager they had no clear answer and after deliberating for a while they came up with the excuse that we had ordered the local Calamari instead of the imported calamari and hence was more expensive but they said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on the menu about the difference in pricing for local compared to imported calamari. And the local calamari was so terrible anyway. It was majorly over cooked and tasted like I was eating an old rubber tyre.
Not to mention that the manager was incredibly rude when we expressed our opinions on the food and made snarky comments when we tried to pay and leave.
The absolute audacity is that they said "Tipping is Sexy" on the bottom of the menu. Ha! You know what is actually sexy? Good food and service!!!
The only nice thing was the premises. It was really pretty...
Read moreI am not really a pub hanger kinda gal, hence the 4 stars only, but ended up there to watch a live gig of Dan Patlansky. The venue is a bit hidden away (go past the pizza place to find it), it is cozy and the music night menu, consisted of easy fare....tasty wings and sweet potato fries filled the gap nicely. The star(s) of the show = obviously..... always the craft beers. Loved the blonde one, very easy drinking....not sure how I managed to drink two pints....must be very easy drinking as they say. Looks like this venue always have something going , even movie nights happen. A small little place like St Francis do well with evident life, like this.
Update Dec 2024/Jan 2025: Post their renovations, it is looking fresh and snazzy, with some modern decor, and fresh surfing colours. Beers top! No issues with reservations, or anyone being snobbish, or offish, always felt welcome, even as a walk in. Waiters so friendly, helpful, and team spirit evident. Enjoyed the comedy show with...
Read moreThe beer was good. But there are no prices on the drinks menu which made us feel awkward asking... Now you have to ask for the price and our waiter gave an estimate of the item.
It seems like you shouldn't be aware of the amount you spend on alcohol at this establishment. - which is sneaky...
When the drinks arrived, the long island ice tea was out of stock, my friend got a margarita instead of a mojito and the requesteed 340ml beer was a 500ml beer. The 1 drink that was correct was 1x 500ml beer.
Tasting beer is 5x100ml (500ml) for R95 which is about double the price of a regular 500ml beer.
Our pizza we ordered came out as a margarita but we ordered a pepperoni. They asked us if we want to keep it anyway, we said no. They instead took it back, where they could've let us keep it as a courtesy. Pizza was average and thin like a wrap's thickness. Cost was R125.
When we arrived at 3pm on Saturday, the restaurant had about 7 tables with people ranging from 1 to 6...
