Bush Tavern, Umdloti — Restaurant in KwaZulu-Natal

I have been to Bush Tavern multiple times, it has a perfect view of the ocean and ample seating. Last time I went the service was not very good, our waiter was very slow, got the order wrong and the food took forever to arrive (It was great when it did come though). If this was my first time going there I would have rated it much lower than I have now but because I have been multiple times I know the restaurant is much better than that. The steaks are cooked perfectly to your taste and the prawns are high quality and come in large enough portions to justify the price. There are some veggie options for those who don't eat meat or seafood. The cocktails are pretty good and the beer is fairly cheap. There is not much parking around the area during peak holiday season (not their fault) so be prepared to have park a little way out along the coast and take a walk to the restaurant. I highly recommend for anyone wanting a good night out and I will definitely go to Bush Tavern again when I go...

These guys get a 5 star eating for their progressive anti-smoking policy alone. No smoking on the deck so non smokers can enjoy the sea air. The smoking area is off the deck around the side of the building where there is no chance of the wind blowing the smoke anywhere near everyone else. I will be supporting these guys just for that alone. They have a big screen TV where they would likely show any rugby games so if you are looking for a smoke free place to watch sport then look no further.

The food was good. Steak, egg and chips came rare as requested however the stand out dish for me was the chilli tomato muscles. Its spicy! Having lived in Asia for 6 years it's hard to find places here in SA that really know how to cook with chilli abd can deliver a spicy dish. This one does that and more.

The only disappointing part of the meal was the creamy peri-peri sauce which was more creme/mayo than peri-peri but does that even matter when you consider all the other great...

I have historically loved the Bush Tavern, yesterday had a great couple of drinks and lovely fish and chips, today went back for pizza and sat down to have some drinks while we wait for the pizza to go. And hour passes and the waiter pops in "they wrapping it up" at the 45 minute mark. No can we do another round or whatever. It was it's usual busy. Anyway when people that arrived after us got their pizza first, I got up to pay for the drinks and leave. Spoke to the manager and then the waiter dashed off to get the pizza and wasn't back in time to catch me having already paid to go down the stairs where I waited a bit on my phone before walking to the car.

So take it as this.

The food is good, the cocktails are good, the view is good, some waiters are fantastic, and some will let you down.
