From the moment we enquired about a specific room to the end of our visit Colin was super attentive, open, accommodating within reason, and welcoming. Our experience is specific to the Louise room and was bright, airy and awesomely appointed. Ladies. The hairdryer is an actual hairdryer. Not those "let's pretend to blow air hairdryers. A refreshing change was that there was a multiplug extension right on the dressing table and so we did not need to send out a search party for plug points to charge phones, cameras etc. From our balcony we could watch people, dogs, cars and characters go by and the sea can most definitely be heard with windows open or shut. We could come and go as we pleased and we used Uber to get to the local "watering holes" and back. We ordered in most nights, from one of the popular pizza places nearby. After a beach walk, there is a handy outside shower to get rid of any sand, to keep Fairlight in the same pristine condition we found it. We never used the pool but that and the the patio area looked amazingly comfortable. It literally invites you to grab a glas of wine from the honesty bar and curl up with a book. Breakfasts were an absolute delight and their scrambled eggs are next level. Coupled with a "nothing beats it" view. I made sure I caught every sunrise and one night at about 11pm and already waning moon put on a show over the water. This place a keeper for future use.

Beautiful setting enthusiastic helpful staff when making the booking but some problems definitely need sorting out. Cannot open windows so can't listen to the sea even if you want to. Probably done for security reasons. But if hot and it is in February have to use the aircon. That was a problem. Leaked and dripped water inside the room. So either cool and noisy flood or hot sweatbox. When management told about it in the morning did not seem to be fazed or even vaguely apologetic or sympathetic. In fact when tried to pay for beer consumed they had no change and we paid with credit card after being made to feel as though our fault did not have smaller change. So good location good food and one understands problems can accord with equipment. But if you are in the hospitality business you should have some understanding of what hospitality means. It's how you rectify mistakes and complaints that determine whether guests will return or not. We certainly won't If thinking of staying there test the windows and aircon before committing.

I had ONE DAY & ONE NIGHT to let my mind and body relax. We really enjoyed our stay across from the beach. As we live inland I wanted to go to sleep to the sound of waves undulating against the shoreline.. sunset and sun rise...views unimpacted...well almost except for the production trailer that temporarily parked in front of our David room for my one perfect night (u gotta laugh)...my perfect view was returned with sunrise (prod vehicle departed)...while it"s Winter for the rest of South Africa..we sit comfortably in warm splendour...security guards are on the street making sure people don't fish where not supposed to..or enter the road at night...I was also inspired to go for a 30 minute run in the neighborhood with a few good hills to test my stamina. Breakfast was Awesome. I requested an omelette and it was served to perfection. This is truly a gem of a place to stay. I fell grateful for my time here and look forward to another time to enjoy.

We arrived in Durban on a late afternoon flight and stayed at Fairlight Beach House for just one night before our onward travels — or at least that was the plan. I’m sure others have written about the spacious, comfortable rooms and the stunning view over the beach and the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately, my wife became ill overnight and was in no state for a long drive, so we weren’t able to fully enjoy the beach house.|During breakfast alone, I explained the situation to the staff. A late check-out was no problem, and they kindly asked whether I needed any medical assistance. Fortunately, the situation wasn’t too serious, but I did ask whether it might be possible to extend our stay. The beach house was, however, fully booked, so I resigned myself to searching for nearby accommodation. Amazingly, the owners quickly found a solution for us, completely removing the stress from the situation.|In the end, my wife felt better by late morning, and we continued our journey. Nevertheless, I was impressed by the exceptional level of customer care and attention we received. It was greatly...
