The highlight at Umami is undoubtedly the food. The menu is diverse, offering a fusion of flavors. Standout dishes include their signature smoked meats and rich and flavorful steaks, burgers and pizzas the best I have tasted and that pack a punch of freshness and texture. Outstanding smokehouse – well worth the drive

Had a father and son bonding lunch here at Umami on Sunday around midday, and it was an experience to remember. We ordered the mixed platter for two, which came with beef and pork ribs, perfectly smoked brisket, and pork belly that was incredibly tender and full of rich flavour. You can really taste the quality of the meat – no shortcuts here.

The homemade red and green chilli sauces were excellent, and the platter also included chips, onion rings and jalapeño poppers – all full of flavour. The beer on tap was also top notch.

I’ve been to several smokehouses around Gauteng and Cape Town, and nothing else in South Africa quite compares. It’s easily on par with, if not better than, a few places I’ve tried in the US.

On top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size – you get great value without breaking the bank.
