Went to doppio zero for a family lunch, we've tried the mall of Africa brunch and it was great so we were confident going there. We were a group of 4 and another 2 ladies arrived the same time as us. We were given a table that was dirty and had to be cleaned while we sat. We ordered drinks and they came about the same time as the other ladies that came in at the same time as us. We ordered 3 pizzas as my mom was going to share with my brother, the 2 ladies across us received their 1 pizza and 1 pasta and started to eat. We waited thinking we were next. We sat for 1 hour without getting our food, the waitress kept walking up and down serving tables until eventually at the 50th min she came to say we should wait 10 more minutes and we did. After that it was now officially 1 hour and our drinks had finished 20 to 30mins ago. After 10mins went by my mom said we are leaving and she went to ask for the bill for the drinks so we could go look for food elsewhere as it was not happening at doppio zero. While talking to the waitress, the manager came and intervened and my mom explained the whole situation he then asked if we could wait another 10mins and take the food as a take away and my mom said no. It would be 1hr 20mins waiting for a meal so no thank you. We paid our bill for the 4 drinks that we had and left unfortunately without eating the pizzas that we had ordered. I presume the waitress forgot to put our order in when we ordered cause it was not supposed to take that long even the manager agreed of which the waitress countered by saying that they had a rugby crowd to cater to but the rugby crowd had onky just come in 10mins before we left so I don't understand how we sat for over 1 hour waiting for food and other tables were prioritized. When we were leaving the ladies that came in the same time as us had just finished their meals so we should have been just about finishing too. My husband and I used to be loyal visitors to Doppio Nelspruit for several years. Unfortunately, during the Covid pandemic and shortly after, it appeared that the restaurant underwent a change in management and began to struggle. The standards plummeted, with poorly prepared famous Doppio dishes, unclean facilities, and a notable lack of service. As a result, we stopped visiting altogether.
However, for some reason, we recently decided to give it another try, and we are delighted that we did! This version of Doppio is undoubtedly the best it has ever been. It appears that it is still under the same management, and we sincerely congratulate them on the remarkable transformation. Perhaps the previous negative changes were merely teething troubles and the aftermath of a global pandemic, but the Nelspruit branch has reclaimed its position as our favorite eatery in town.
Their cappuccinos are simply fabulous, and the pastries are amazing! We have tried several dishes, and all of them have been of fantastic quality with reasonable prices. We highly recommend the pasta dishes, any of their meat burgers, the Earth Child burger, and their pizzas!
It is with great pleasure that we confidently recommend Doppio Nelspruit once again. The restaurant has made a remarkable comeback, and we are thrilled to have our favorite spot back...
Read moreWe have had a few nice lunches recently at Doppio Zero, including today's (even if the service was a little slow). However, what was really disappointing was what happened with our bill. When we placed our order (with the manager) we were offered extra avocado (which we said "yes" to) and extra cheese on a pizza (which we very clearly declined). On receiving the bill we were charged for both items, so of course we queried it, expecting the erroneous charge to be removed without a problem.
However, the waiter said that the manager had said we had asked for the cheese, as he remembered offering it to us. The amount of money involved was small, but to effectively be called a liar left a very unpleasant taste.
Update - after posting this review, I was contacted by both the Head of Operations and the General Manager. I was impressed by their desire to learn more about what happened on this occasion and their commitment to ensure that such an incident does not...
