What an amazing gem to be found in the industrial area of Ndabeni. We have been coming here since after Covid in 2020 and the staff are always welcoming, warm and friendly.
The current two managers - Deirdre and Lisa-Mari are hands on and involved - which leads to great service.
The food is absolutely amazing and on point every single time we visit. We have to date not had a single bad experience with the service or food.
Chef Stef leads his team extremely well and they excel every-time we have had a quick take away, or breakfast sit down or the most yummy part - the Friday day night BBQ. If you have never had beautifully smoke BBQ - then I would advise you to come visit them on a Friday night - bookings are essential - because BBQ is a weeks prep and to be sure you not disappointed, book so they can make sure you can share in the amazing food.
I myself are a traditionalist when it comes to a "braai broodtjies" - but man oh man - was I converted here. They have perfected the oh-we-goiwiness of the melting cheese and the perfect outside crust. The beef brisket, pork belly with crispy crackling, burnt end (both beef and pork) are to die for.
For your first visit I recommend the platter with a braai broodtjies - but don't come alone - share it - nothing taste better than a share meal.
Then there is the deli/bakery in the front - which is open all week with the most amazing baked breads, pasties de natas and so many other decadent pastries and cake options to choose from. Oh and they welcome feedback and ideas. This year the September Pasties De Natas celebrated the strawberry and October the Blue Berry - love the themed ones.
Now moving onto the great variety of beers they have on tap. How is a girl suppose to keep her figure in shape - luckily round is also a shape - if you keep on making these wonderful beers. My favourite - and I like a strong hoppy beer - is the Hogtale IPA - but don't take my word for it - grab a taster tray or a mixed six pack for take away. You will love it.
For those that are not into beer - they also have a gin and tonic or a wide variety of wines.
If you are not a drinker - don't fret - they have tonic water, the homemade lemonade which is really refreshing and smoothies / freshly squeezed juice to choose from.
The real standout for me is the the coffees - it is a staple to me that works in the area and the baristas knows how to make one of the best cups of coffee across Cape Town. If it is to hot for coffee - try the iced coffee - absolutely smooth and requires no sugar.
For those that love our fur babies - they are welcome on the lead.
We just want to say thank you to the wonderful team of people that makes this little gem a huge success - you guys rock!!!
The Gilhams
PS: Reason for no photos of this review - the food is so good - I just keep forgetting to do the snaps -...
Read moreHoghouse has truly become my absolute favourite go-to restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with warmth and friendliness that immediately makes you feel at home. The atmosphere is relaxed yet vibrant, and the smell of freshly baked goods coming from their kitchen is enough to keep you coming back time and time again.
While their food is always excellent – with hearty breakfasts, flavourful dinners and some of the best baked goods I have ever had – what really sets Hoghouse apart is the service. Zandile, along with the rest of the wonderful staff, never fails to greet us with a big smile. They even know us by name and remember exactly what we like to order, which makes every visit feel personal and special. That level of care and attention is rare and truly appreciated.
It is this combination of outstanding food and exceptional service that makes Hoghouse stand out above the rest. They consistently deliver quality, whether it is a casual breakfast or a special dinner out, and you always leave feeling satisfied and well-looked after.
Thank you, Hoghouse, for being more than just a restaurant – you are a place of comfort, joy and community. I am so grateful to have you as our go-to spot, and I cannot recommend you...
Read moreI visit hoghouse at least twice a month for dinner and then probably 2 or 3 times for a quick coffee and pastry. I would normally give 4.5 to 5 stars, i went last night for dinner as usual. The food always amazing and was really good, i am disappointed in the massive vegetable cost per plate??? The bun selection 5 star the meat well priced 5 star. Chefs 5 star. Also a pity it is still not in the old back building, loved the pub effect, but its understandable due to covid. Now the waitors last night only deserve 2.5 star. We waited 20minutes for service on arrival? I eventually got the attention on one of the kitchen staff who sent us a waitor. Our order was also messed up twice, still waiting for certain drinks we ordered. We also had to wait a extra 10 minutes to get our bill sorted?? In saying this the staff are all pleasent...
