Unfortunately, my experience did not live up to expectations at all. We drove 200km for this lunch and when I booked the table 6 days earlier, I specifically requested a table at a window, with a view of the lagoon. I was assured that we would get one. The seating arrangements were important to me. The purpose of driving out for lunch was to treat my elderly parents, who lived in Langebaan for many years, with this lunch and beautiful view of the lagoon. However, when we arrived were shoved into a corner furthest away from the windows. I was told that they do not have a window table because they are full. They weren't "full" when I booked almost a week ago. It was a windless day in May and the temperature was 28 degrees. So, instead of making a big fuzz about the seating, I requested an outside table rather than sitting at the corner table. The hostess insisted that it was too cold to serve us outside, even though she was wearing a sleeveless, summer dress. In my opinion serving us outside would have complicated her day and it was easier for her to keep everybody huddled together in the same room. The dining room has absolutely no atmosphere and the ghastly decor does it no favours. Being used to fine dining, the food was not noteworthy at all. Service was slow and by the time we received sorbet with our cakes instead of ice cream, as ordered, I just wanted it all to be over and get out of there. This place will never see me again and I will most definitely not recommend it to anyone, for so...

From the moment we stepped onto the sun-drenched terrace of La Petite Maison, perched like an ancient watchpoint over the shimmering lagoon, we knew we had found the perfect sanctuary for a day out in Langebaan. The view alone is worth the visit—but what followed made it unforgettable.

We began with beautifully crafted cocktails, served alongside an exquisite amuse-bouche that set the tone for what would be a truly indulgent culinary experience. Could it get any more effortlessly European?

Lunch was a slow, luxurious affair inside the equally stunning interior—elegant yet warm, refined but completely inviting. We savored every bite of a masterfully reinvented French onion soup, creamy abalone, elevated fish and chips, and a perfectly prepared chicken breast, all paired with exceptional South African wines. Every dish was thoughtful, balanced, and bursting with flavor. The desserts? Sublime.

Four glorious hours later, full and utterly content, we were ready for a blissful afternoon nap. But before we left, we were treated to the ultimate touch of hospitality: a warm, personal visit from the owner-chef duo, Yohann (French) and La Retha (South African). Their passion, charm, and effortless warmth added that final sparkle to an already dazzling experience.

La Petite Maison isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a destination. A celebration of European elegance with South African soul. It has earned a permanent place in our hearts and will forever be on our list for every return to the...

I had the pleasure of dining at la Petit Maison, and I must say, it was an exquisite culinary journey. The restaurant's commitment to freshness, creativity, and flavor was evident in every dish they served.

The menu was a testament to the chef's ingenuity, featuring a mix of classic French cuisine and innovative twists that showcased their creativity. From the appetizers to the desserts, each plate was a work of art that delighted both the eyes and the palate.

What truly stood out was the quality of the ingredients. The use of fresh, locally sourced produce and the finest cuts of meat and seafood was unmistakable. Every bite burst with flavor, and the attention to detail in seasoning and presentation was commendable.

The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience. The elegant decor, soothing music, and attentive service created an atmosphere that transported me to a cozy corner of France. The staff's knowledge of the menu and their ability to recommend dishes based on individual preferences added a personal touch to the dining experience.

Fantastic setting, sumptuous fine dining meals. Starters, through to mains were cooked perfectly by the head chef. Atmosphere lacked slightly as the background music turned off several times. Our waitress was fun and lively without being in our faces. Food wise, our evening started off with a mojito cocktail out in the patio of the 1860 founded farmhouse hotel. Starters comprised of fresh oysters and followed swiftly by prawn crackers, prawn meat, veg jus and accompanied by west coast lobster ravioli. Both utterly delicious. As we watched the West Coast hand crafted sunset sweep over our Langebaan town, we tucked into wonderfully and perfectly cooked Ribeye steak, upperclass jacket potato and veggies, while The Warden got stuck into a rack of lamb, we both shared our generous portions, enjoying a quiet evening celebrating my birthday. Dessert was utterly fulfilling, coffee crème brulé and cheesecake with accompanying blood orange sorbet, freshly whipped cream and berry compote. Sipping on Springfield's Life of Stone with the sunset melting behind the west coast sky, the food and especially company was a treat.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at La Petite Maison. Everything was just right, from Laretha’s welcome to the flavourful, beautifully presented food prepared by her husband, Jean, a genuine Parisian chef, and the attentive service. I enjoyed the steamed fresh Saldanha mussels, served in a white wine mariniere with hand cut fries and a totally delicious tossed salad. My partner had the seafood linguine, with mussels, prawns, oysters, squid and homemade pesto. These dishes were perfectly partnered by a glass of 2021 Brink unwooded chardonnay, as recommended by the hostess. The combination of outside dining, a variety of hand thrown ceramic table ware, navy and white striped table mats, succulents in succulent-shaped pots, was exactly the right vibe for celebrating Women’s Day.

The ambience, view and decor were a sheer delight. The price was extremely fair - surprisingly so. Great coffee to see us on our way. I’ll certainly drive the distance to go there again. Next time, I’ll definitely keep space and time for the desserts, which sounded heavenly.
