After reading all their wonderful online reviews, this place was one of my must sees. However I left with a bit of a "much ado about nothing" feeling. Overcharged, underfed and it was nothing spectacular. Yes the live music was good, the service was average and the food was mediocre at best. There was no warm welcome by the owner or even a check in by our waitress during our meal to find out if everything was satisfactory. She brought us menus, took our orders, delivered our food and we then saw her again when she collected our dishes and we asked to settle our bill. Our table had the Seafood Pasta (more pasta and cream sauce, with few pieces of seafood), the Valoute mussels (very big bowl, very few mussels, a thin sauce and the saving grace of freshly baked bread) and the Cape Bream which seemed to go down a treat. They were quite busy when we visited so perhaps it was just "our luck of the draw" but I do not consider the meal justifying the bill in this particular instance. A rating of 3 out of 5 seems appropriate, and this solely based on the few redeeming qualities of the food we ordered and the live music in the background.

Opikaai was a real suprised treat. We were hungry and searching for a place to have breakfast at St Helena. As we were walking around and looking at the fishing boats we noticed a restaurant that was only opening at 11 am. Not really the tipe of restaurant that has the looks of very fancy food. But what a surprise we had when the food that we ordered came. First we had a beautiful view of the bay, then the surprise, it was the most delicious Calamari and fries we have tasted in a long time. It just shows, never judge a book by its cover. Thank you Opikaai we were quite taken back by you delicious food. Highly recommended.

We tried this place on a whim for my birthday in November. Wow - please take it from me that this seafood is unlike anything you've had before. It is extremely fresh and very tasty. It is obvious that the owners have a love affair with the sea and a passion for cooking sea food. It was outstanding and very memorable, and we cannot wait to go back. What would've made this even better would've been a nice tall glass of beer. Unfortunately the restaurant did not yet have a liquor license when we visited (apparently in progress), but patrons are welcome to bring their own drinks with.

I took a drive down to St Helena Bay today and was forced to stop at a garage where I ask a petrol attendant where can find fish and chips. He advised me to go to the harbour just around the corner. When I took a left turn thought I'm at Snoekies in Houtbay but when I entered Oppikaai I realise that this is no ordinary fish and chips takeaways. I nevertheless decided to sit down. When I got the menu figured that this is next level seafood. Long story short this was the most pleasant experience ever. The friendliest most warm hearted owners and staff I ever came across. The set-up,atmosphere and location just perfect. The preparation and presentation our food was fit for a king, not to mention the tartar sauce with a twist. Whoever might be reading this dont have to take my word, but go try Oppikaai yourself. Definitely an experience worth the try...

Well done Melody,Charl and staff you will definitely see me in the...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Oppikaai Restaurant in St Helena Bay, and I must say, it’s easily one of the best restaurants in the area! The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing meal by the coast.

We ordered the calamari and the seafood platter, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The calamari, in particular, stood out with its soft, flavorful batter that was perfectly cooked – truly one of the best I’ve had. The seafood platter was fresh and generously portioned, showcasing the local flavors beautifully.

The staff was polite, attentive, and ensured that our experience was smooth and enjoyable. Overall, Oppikaai offers a delightful combination of great food, a pleasant atmosphere, and excellent service. I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in...
