I'm absolutely enamored with this spot! The craft beer selection is impressive, and the eclectic decor creates a unique atmosphere that perfectly complements the experience. The rustic-industrial vibe, complete with what I think may be Mad Max movie props, adds a touch of whimsy.
The food is satisfying and enjoyable, with a good variety of options to pair with their excellent beers. However, I do have some thoughts on the pizzas. As someone who's worked in the food and hospitality industry, with a background in pizza making, I have to say that the pizzas didn't quite meet my expectations. Specifically, I felt that the price point wasn't entirely justified by the quality and quantity of the pizzas.
The base, in particular, was too thin and lacked a bit of depth. In my opinion, this is likely due to the dough not being properly proved, which resulted in a crust that didn't have the characteristic chew and texture of a well-made pizza. Additionally, the toppings could have been more generous.
I understand that making great pizza is a delicate balance of ingredients, technique, and experience. With a wood-fired pizza oven at their disposal, I think Trigger Fish has tremendous potential to elevate their pizza game.
If I might offer a suggestion, I'd recommend exploring opportunities for pizza-making training or workshops. Osteria Cheese Bar at Waterkloof Wine Estate comes to mind - they offer excellent training programs and are renowned for their outstanding pizzas.
Overall, I adore this spot and appreciate the effort they put into creating a unique and enjoyable experience. With a bit of refinement in their pizza department, I think they could...
Read moreNot a beer drinker per say, but saw mention of gin and cider. Good enough for us. Bit tricky to get to, Google Maps showed routes which were blocked off. Only access is via the beach side entrance opposite the golf course. Very rustic setting, lots of character, staff behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. Put her up for a challenge on the tasting i.e. something for a cider drinker. First up was a cloudy apple cider, plus three other beers which were quite appealing, was pleasantly surprised with the stout, chocolate and coffee came through. Interesting menu, we had a platter and thoroughly enjoyed the variety. Portions were good and the kids cleaned there plates. Interesting decor including the Mad Max style 3 wheeler bike outside. Area and the building steeped in history dating back more than a 100 years. The owner is quite familiar with the area dating back to the late 1800 when the ground belonged to De Beers and AECI explosives manufacturing era. Even have a sign up dating back to the recent demolition works done. Lots of Hubert Baker history on the grounds. We will go back...
Read moreIt's hard to visit the Triggerfish Brewery and not to find something you like. They have a vast range of different beers available and their food menu consists of a selection of different pub-style dishes. We first started with a tasting of four of their beers - you have the option of choosing any four of their beers that are available for tasting, but I decided to go on their recommendation of their best sellers. It included a Blonde Ale, American Pale Ale (APA), India Pale Ale (IPA) made from dandelion leaves instead of hops, and a sweet stout. I really enjoyed their APA and decided to order a pint to enjoy with lunch. My wife and I ordered the Triggerfish Platter which was very tasty and enough for 2 people for a light lunch. The restaurant and tasting area is all in one. When you get there you can open a tab or you can pay as you go which is great if you have some in your group that just want to grab a quick beer while others are having lunch. The brewery has a very rustic pub vibe and they also have live...
