Friendly staff and beautiful setting, but very bad management.
I had breakfast here and got kicked out an hour after finishing as I was still using the wifi. The general manager interrupted my business meeting while I was busy speaking, to tell me that I was abusing the wifi and I should leave after finishing eating. The other attendants followed the whole thing as I left my video and mike on due to the unexpected and sudden interruption. Everyone found the situation completely bizarre... I should note that I was sitting out of everyone's way and the restaurant had in the order of 4 or 5 tables with customers, so around 20% capacity. (I had also asked the waiter if it was fine if I hanged around for my next meeting considering I would be late for it otherwise - no concerns were raised) I was scolded for "abusing the wifi"... wifi, which has become ubiquitous and generally available for free at other restaurants in the area. Speaking of which, there are so many really good restaurants (with better food) in the area with equally nice settings, I don't see how they can afford to treat their customers so poorly... I often go to other restaurants in the surrounding area to work from and have always had good food and friendly service, my recommendation is to pass on Avontuur's restaurant.
I have contacted the owner as this experience had really upset me, I have not received any...
Read moreWimpy style breakfast with checkers worsies and chips and a little ice berg salad for R115. Wimpy is OK, but not what I was expecting from the no.2 restaurant in Somerset West charging that price. View is nice, not nearly as breathtaking as say Lourensford or Vergelegen. Waitress got R0 tip because: She forgot to ask our toddler if she wanted something to drink. Didn't offer us an extra chair (we were 4, given 3 chairs, i guess our kids should know they don't get chairs), forgot to bring sugar with coffee, took my milk away that was served with coffee before I was finished. We waited 10 min for a spoon to feed our child, although we asked for the spoon before we ordered. Bread came 5 min after food, then 10 min later the ice cold hard butter came. Kroesie in child's scramble egg. No one came to fetch the bill, Had to go and pay inside, only to be told I forgot the service charge and i said ' i did it purposefully'.
Stunning horses, well looked after, I just wish you'd train your staff like your horses. Place was also very empty for a Saturday morning, I guess I know why now.
If you want a real treat of a breakfast, go to Jordan wine farm and see what quality and service is. This...

Apart from the very bad service, the Moroccan chicken arrived uncooked and was sent back to the kitchen. Upon the second attempt my boyfriend ate it and complained it tasted awful but he was hungry as he already had to wait an extra 15 min for new food to be made while the rest of us sat eating.
A few hours later he became very ill and puked out undigested chicken and vegetables- a clear sign of the very thing that poisoned you.
The restaurant manager seems to think that this is not a matter for investigation and that it couldn’t be his awful tasting chicken which was half cooked on round 1.
They don’t know what they’re doing in the kitchen and their hygiene standards are questionable.
Don’t eat chicken here or anything that’s spiced- they hide the vulgarity between the spices.
And in closing I would like to say that this manager is a very poor excuse for a manager. He has zero people skills- talks over you, won’t let you finish a sentence and seems to think he is a Dr and knows everything about medicine.
Well sir you know what? When you handle food you have a responsibility to make sure that it’s fresh and good for human...
