Instead of delivering an excellent service Delaire Graffs waiters rather execute ridiculous covid rules! We were all sitting outside and still you may not even move your chair or take a picture without being immediately reprimanded by your waiter to cover your face. The staff themselves however is not applying these rules to themselves! Their masks were worn on their chins or not at all ( at the wine tasting or parking) I really don’t care if they do so…but I want to enjoy my food and talk to my friends not only about Covid rules and I don’t need waiters to monitor me in this respect. The focus at Delaire is however only in this topic. We could not enjoy the beautiful view as we were watching this ridiculous scenes happening whereas staff would run after customers and tell them to wear their masks properly. Only smokers were allowed to smoke without masks 🤣 The food by the way was also unfortunately not making it up to us. The oysters were unbeatable and one person of our group ended up with a food poisoning! No value for money at Delaire! If you pay already so much you could expect, service orientation and a good quality of food and at least a picture of the stunning view without a mask! Rather go to Tokara ( opposite side) same view...
Read moreWe traveled from the US on our first trip to South Africa. We planned our day in Stellenbosch to the T since we only had 1 full day here. Delaire Graff was to be the highlight of our wine tasting experience. We called to make a reservation and were told they do not take reservations but the last tasting is at 5pm. We arrived at 4pm and were told they shut the wine tasting down at 3:30pm due to being “too busy”. I addressed the issue with Ane who was working the front desk. She was very appologetic and handled the situation professionally. She called her manager Werner Wetzel who was a complete jerk. He didn’t seem to care about the inconvenience or the fact that they misrepresented their hours of operation. He just continued to make excuses about being busy and unable to handle the volume of business. How is it that their inability to handle their operations my problem? And what business just folds and gives up when they get busy? Mr.Wetzel had no resolution to the issues and did not seem to care that 4 people left their establishment furious and completely inconvenienced. I expect more from an establishment like...
Read moreDellair Graeff Winery-Restaurant-Lodge. A bit of everything, but what is really really really good??? Well, the wines for tasting (top class range) were all good. We had split our small group into two groups, with one group having a wine tasting and the other having lunch in the restaurant. Both were very good. European top class. All the staff were well-trained, attentive and courteous. The restaurant was the highlight overall. It was well equipped, had a great view of the mountains and the Franschoek Valley. Super. Cold plates with air-dried ham and salami products were offered at the wine tasting. And lots of good cheese. All in all, and with the visit to the beautiful lodge, I can give 9.99 out of 10.0 points in every respect. There was something that bothered me at the wine farm. But I can't say what it was. Maybe it was the latent pressure that we had been made aware of the sale of wine to the EU over and over again. I had been offered 4-5 times that I could order now. That was the only thing I didn't like. I think if that had been gone, I would have given 10.0...
