A very exciting fish market. Aside from selling fresh/live seafood, there're sections that sell snacks and dried seafood, as well as restaurants cook to your orders. You pick the live seafood you want and they cook it for you on the spot, can't be fresher than that. They also give you free appetizers that mostly live seafood cut as sashimi like sea squirt, abalone, octopus, etc. They also give steamed sea snails and some kind of seafood rolls. Pretty luxurious for free appetizers I think. We ordered king crab steamed at ₩90,000/kg, quite affordable, and it came sweet as it can be. They also cut it so it's easy for you to eat it. They also mix the head butter in the shell with some kind of mix rice, it come out heavenly. We ordered fugu at ₩60,000/kg, they sashimi the body and make soup out of the head and bone, quite nice and refreshing. I highly recommend those two if you're here.
The seafood market is very lively with a million different kind of seafood sold. I had my eyes on the clams, prawns and snow crabs but alas my tummy is at its maximum capacity. The place is very clean, no smell at all and the water drainage is very active...
Read moreJumunjin Fish Market is one of the less popular areas of Kangwondo. However, the quality of the market is very high and not as well-known to travelers. The prices of the fish are cheap but the quality is very high. The prices that the merchants shout are the price of fish within the basket they present. It usually contains about 35 different types of fish. Prices range from $30$100. After purchasing the fish, you will have to send your fish to a professional cutter to get it into the form of sashimi. It costs about $5~$15. At minimum, you can get high quality sashimi for around $35 which can feed up to 3 people. The side menus that the merchants sell within the fish market are slightly overpriced so I recommend you use the stores nearby. There are some convenience stores nearby such as the 'No Brand' store where they sell somethings you might want along with your sashimi such as alcohol or other beverages.
