You may be impressed with the meat case near the entrance to the main dining hall. However, I was concerned that different meats were stacked together. As most people will know, it is essential to separate different meats to ensure that bacteria does not spread and it makes me wonder if the same conditions apply in their kitchen where strictly using different chopping boards and utensils for ready-to-eat food and raw meat is essential to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria. Despite our misgivings, we did order their Simmental Swiss meat which was tasty. Unfortunately that is where the compliments stop, their service and everything else we tried is not worthy of a good comment or recommendation.
We ordered a mixed salad, an avocado salad and a patatas bravas for starters. The mixed salad was substantially over-dressed with the bottom of the bowl swimming in dressing. The avocado salad consisted of less than a quarter of an avocado on top of a small mixed salad and again overdressed. At 3,90€ for the avocado salad alone we expected considerably more.
The patasas bravas was very tasteless. It seemed to us that the sauce was from a squeezy bottle out of the supermarket but also cold on top of the potatoes.
The prawns in garlic were very average at best.
As to the service, the Italian server highly recommended the most expensive wine on the list instead of looking at the big picture by suggesting a good wine at a reasonable price. We ordered 1.5kg of the Simmental but the waiter told us that we could only order in whole kilograms and insisted that we should purchase 2kg which would have been far too much for our party of four. After a lengthy debate, he reluctantly agreed to provide the weight we had requested.
After spending more than €200 with 2 starters, 2 salads, 1.5kg of Simmental and few bottles of wine, we asked for a chupito. To our amazement we were told that the “kitchen was closed” and refused our order! We also checked with the restaurant manager and she told us the same.
It seems to us that this restaurant will not last long if they continue with their current attitude towards customers. They do not seem to realise that all the advertising in the world will not make up for poor service and below average food. Good food at a reasonable price with excellent service will always entice clients to return and will do their advertising for them with good word of mouth. The quicker they learn this recipe for success the quicker they will be able to recoup the considerable amount of money they have spent on this restaurant!
In our personal opinion, Asador La Camella is definitely not...
Read moreSo we arrived at the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the look of it inside. The staff were very friendly with smiling faces, but couldn’t speak very good English. I ordered the wagyu steak which came out raw and I got given my own grill to cook it which I think is a bit of a joke for the money I paid. On top of that, we asked if they could cook our steak for us to go home as we didn’t have an oven at the apartment we were staying at. which the waiter nodded walked off come back with the box to which we opened it and realised it was still raw and not touched so we then asked someone else who got funny and rude said “Why don’t you have your own oven” which we replied we are on holiday and are staying at a rental. I then woke up that night at 1am violently throwing up in the toilet from their meat I always cook my meat well done so I know it can’t be from the cooking it was obviously from the poorly preserved...
Read moreExcellent and really easy to find if you're over here on holiday or aren't to familiar with places outside of the main resorts. Just exit the motorway for Chayofa or if you're in Los Cristianos head up towards the motorway (but not on it) and carry onto Chayofa. Pass Chayofa and continue up past a petrol stsying on the right. You'll then come to La Camella and it is literally the first building you will see on the left. Park around the back. It's only a 5 minute drive from Los Cristianos. Cheap enough in a taxi too.
Very much a meat eaters restaurant. Its nicely furnished and laid out inside. Typical Canarian food and lots of meat dishes with a wide range of prices for different cuts of steak. A mixed grill for two is served on a table cooker and more than enough food, prices at 18€ so you can eat cheap if you want to or splash out on something more...
