Restaurante Mesón Sorrosal — Restaurant in Broto

I'm a vegetarian and travel a lot in Spain. Outside of the big cities, it's difficult to find veggie food, and establishments are a bit stubborn about making simple adjustments to their regular menu items. For example, I called Casa Frauca (down the road) and asked if they had any meals for vegetarians, and they guy gruffly said, "no, we are a meat restaurant!" Well, okay then. In a tourist economy, I'm not sure how effective that attitude is.

Which brings me to Mesón Sorrosal, a very nice place that has an extensive vegetarian menu, and everything we tried was excellent. Nice folks, as well. Thanks for paying attention to modern dining trends! They still can cater to the core meat eaters, but with a little creativity and effort, expand their client base. And the place was packed at both lunch and dinner with a line out the door.

Great veggie food.

We tried to get in here on a rainy Saturday and it was mobbed. Just finishing a fantastic 2-course dinner with wines and coffees here. I had the veg pie with mushroom sauce, friend had the trout. Great white wine recommendation for the veg pie. My friend loved the Rosè with his trout. We had the pannacotta with forest fruits and the mousse with strawberries for afters. I had a delicious glass of the semi-sweet white with it: then a great espresso; my friend had a very nice cappuccino.

Prices no more than the going rate.

Le pongo una estrella porque no puedo ponerle menos. Hemos hecho una espera aprox de 2h para sentarnos por fin. Hemos llegado a las 14h menos algo, el camarero nos ha apuntado en un una lista y nos ha dicho que volviéramos en 1h15h. También nos ha tomado el teléfono y nos ha asegurado que si se iba alguna mesa antes, nos llamarian. Cuando hemos vuelto en ese tiempo hemos visto que nos habian pasado mesas por delante y no nos habían llamado. Como era de esperar, cuando por fin nos hemos sentado a comer ( 16:00h aprox) se había acabado medio menú. El servicio pésimo, no nos miraban por no venir a atendernos, los camareros muy secos y desagradables en sus respuestas, se solapaban, nos han tomado nota dos veces, entre ellos nos se comunicaban... En fin, un desastre. Cuando la camarera nos ha dicho que tampoco había otro de los platos que habíamos pedido, le hemos trasladado nuestra queja y descontento, a lo que se ha limitado a decir que hay gente que hace reservas con un año de antelación porque "es increíble comer aquí". Lo primero no se lo ha creído nadie, pero lo segundo sí, creo que será muy increíble poder comer algo de tu elección aquí. Lo bueno que tiene sentarte en un restaurante a las 16h es que por lo menos, los platos salen más rápido. Añado foto de cada plato del menú:

1. Ensalada de queso de cabra y cebolla crujiente: sin más, mezclum de bolsa, cebolla crujiente de supermercado, algún grano de maíz,... nada que no puedas hacerte en casa y lejos de "increíble", lo único bueno el cuarto de tomate.
2. Churrasco: mediocre, tan absolutamente pasado que se hacía bola.
3. Natilla de postre: Correcta, sin más. Nada recomendable, no volveremos. Hay que tener en cuenta que en Broto no hay mucha oferta de restauración pero sin duda, antes de venir aquí a hacer gasto, la Cantera le da mil vueltas y...
