SEAFOOD = CHINCHORRO Following the recommendation of my guiding angel Diana where I stayed in Rodeiramar, I booked my table in Chinchorro for an early dinner at 3pm Tucked in unassumedly along the stunning seafront of Aldán, Chinchorro is a rare find. The sea is a stone throw away and that’s where most of the food on the menu is sourced from, inside a mile radius! This is the kind of fish restaurant I was hoping I would find when I came to Galicia, and sure enough I did. The setting was picture perfect. For starters I asked Gonzales if he could arrange a mixed pot of cockles and clams. He kindly offered a taster bowl of traditional chick pea stew and homemade crusty bread as I waited for the food. The shellfish arrived within minutes, gently pan steamed in their own liquor, finished with a drizzle of olive oil and a drop of fresh lemon. Super tender clams and meaty cockles, for a perfect starter. For mains I ordered red mullet. Enhanced the flavor of already gorgeous thick slices of steamed Spanish potatoes with a drizzle of ext v olive oil, a light sprinkle of chives and sea salt… Nothing overpowering, nothing is taking the stage from the main act; Red Mullet, king of the fish, dusted lightly with flour and perfectly pan fried, served whole My house Albarinio white was the perfect companion for the mullet. Well I had to order another one! After my second cup of coffee I struck a very engaging chat with the chef Lise, thanks partly to Google translate. We shared a toast of his homemade coffee whiskey, very smooth, strong and bonding! Gonzales was extremely helpful and very patient dealing with my non-existing Spanish, or Galician for that matter. The bill came to €29.80 I had to go back the next evening and the next after that. Go there you must, for the unparalleled hospitality, fabulous view and the 5...

Our experience here was bittersweet. We were not the best at planning our excursion and we found ourselves here with basically only half an hour before we had to leave for our train. How sad is that?! I’m thankful that we could experience this little gem, and sad that I couldn’t spend an entire afternoon here.

We tried to order things that were fast, so we got two salads, a plate of octopus and a plate of percebes. I was soooo excited about the percebes because I’ve never tried them before and I know that they’re a local delicacy. Unfortunately those took the longest to cook so we had to experience them in a matter of seconds. Maybe that was better since they looked very unusual to me and the rush made me less squeamish to try them… haha!

The salads were very nice and according to our in-laws the octopus was totally delicious.

Our mouths were watering when we saw the waiter bringing a massive bubbling casserole dish with a whole fish and multiple vegetables to the couple next to us. Oh my gosh it looked incredible!

A massive thank you to the very kind and hard working wait staff. We could tell they were in rush to serve everyone and the fact that they worked extra hard to make sure we got our food was so kind of them. They could have easily said that serving us in such short time wasn’t possible.

We...
