This place is horrendous and should be avoided at all costs.
Thats the opening done, perhaps you want to know why I said this, so read on and make your own judgements.
On a lovely sunny 1st January 2020, we (4 adults 1 2 year old, all spanish except 1 english) decided to meet up for some lunch and where better than the scenic village of Casares. Meeting point established - Mi Cortijo.
The restaurant is located at the start of the village of Casares, and has probably the best views a restaurant can have in the area. Town, castle, mountains, gibraltar. Beautiful.
Fantastic outdoor seating area allowing people to enjoy their food/drinks whilst gazing out on to the Andalusian landscape.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a loud speaker playing music, a bit too loud. On closer inspection it appears to be a creepy looking man playing guitar to a some music. The music was okay if you sat far enough away - we wanted to still chat to each other.
Clearing the table ourselves, we sat down and waited maybe 10 - 15 before a member of staff came to take our drinks order. (only 2 adults at this time, waiting on the others). When our drink order was taken we asked for the menu and told it will follow shortly.
10 mins later the two drinks came, no menu, and again told the menu will come shortly.
Friends arrived and we sat and chatted for maybe 15 mins, still with only 2 drinks and no menu.
We started getting rather hungry and annoyed. The man playing guitar had stopped and some generic music was playing. But I swear someone kept leaning on the volume remote as the volume would go up quickly to ear breakingly loud, and then down again (many times).
The owner was clearing tables and I managed to gain her attention, to show we wanted some service, she nodded and I thought "great here we go, im hungry!"
Nothing for another 10
Nearly a whole hour after sitting down do we get presented with a dirty menu and told of the specials - before being told that they are out of most of the specials...
Menu wasn't very appealing and we didnt want to wait an hour more for food. So we called another place in the square who promised us a table in the next 30mins.
Thats it off we went.
Bill first, 6Euros for 1 glass of wine and 1 coke zero. It was meant to be 5.50 but they charge for using a card. Ridiculous and hasnt this been stamped out??, in the end they said 5euros.
Upon leaving the owner turned to her friend and said "at least I have friends who are happy to wait"
look here m'dear, I am more than happy to wait for good food. But 1 hour for you to take my food order I am not happy to wait for.
She also said that there are only 2 of them working. Bit of business sense here, you don't take on more than you can handle. They were hosting a 30th birthday inside - perhaps close the whole place, instead of trying to serve 10 - 15 other tables...
Read moreThis place could have been awesome, if the woman running the place was not such a horrible person, with delusions of grandeur. The location has a great view, which I am sure is why people come at first. But the prices are obscene for the quality of the the food, and the manager/owner was yelling at customers, telling them to go to McDonalds, because they asked for an order of fries. They do sell fries here, as part of another dish, but she felt unable to bring separate fries to an autistic child, who was getting too hungry to stay happy. This was in spite of the waitress's promising this before the drinks were ordered.
The restaurant itself is a bit of a con. They use a few tricks to get everyone to order some drinks before actually seeing the menu, and then you feel stuck.
But, this horrible manager has hijacked enough of my holiday now, so have a read amongst the other reviews, and don't bother going here.
Fawlty Towers is hilarious, but as I found out today, not so much fun...
Read moreNicely located restaurant iin the beautiful village of Casares. We gave it two stars because of the nice location only… if the food would have been good the rating would have been higher. This is an okay restaurant if you want a coffee or a caña, but we don’t recommend the food. The tomato salad was simply tomato slices covered in red onion pieces. The lamb took more than an hour to reach the table and is was accompanied by wet fries (swimming in meat juice) and boiled carrot slices. The flavor was not good, and several of us had lamb that wasn’t cooked properly, as it was undercooked. The prices are okay, but given the quality of the food we think the price/performance ration is quite poor. The restrooms are very untidy and extremely dirty, as is the interior in general. We will not come back for anything but coffee, and we will...
