Came here for Sunday lunch. The place was complete and utter chaos. On arrival we were greeted by 10-15 children running riot, we could barely get up the stairs due to them all running up and down them and nearly knocking my heavily pregnant wife over. We had booked a table so were expecting one to be available for us inside but were told they were too busy inside. They said we could sit out the back on the patio which we didn't really want but had no other choice. When we went outside it was freezing cold, the only tables left were completely in the shade which is not great considering it is December! I had to go and get a second coat from the car for my wife to use a blanket. At this point if we hadn't had already ordered our drinks then we would have left. The drinks arrived quickly which was good but my glass was so dirty it was unusable. I ended up drinking out of my wifes glass and she drank her water out of the bottle. We were called up for the carvery and half of the food trays were empty so we didn't get hardly any veg (1 stem of broccoli and a few carrots), no mashed potatoes left at all either. The sauce dishes were also empty. We also had no cutlery so had to go and find someone to get this for us which was a challenge as none of the staff were wearing uniform. Hard to work out who worked there and who didn't. When we finished our food we waited around 25 mins for someone to come and take our plates. We were never asked if the food was ok, if we wanted any more drinks or if we wanted a dessert. We were completely forgotten about sat out the back. We kept waiting as we did actually want dessert and another drink but nobody came out for us to even ask. We got sick of waiting so went to the bar to pay our bill as we just wanted to get out of there so went elsewhere for some dessert. The bar staff didn't have a clue what we had had, we had to tell them. The only reason I am giving a 1 star is because the food we did have on the carvery was very nice, it's just a shame we didn't get to try all of it. We go out to different restaurants for a Sunday lunch nearly every week and would have came back if the experience was good but it was dreadful. The service was some of the worst I think...
Read moreWhen reality doesn't meet expectations. Attracted by an interesting menu & reviews of a beautifully refurbished restaurant with, apparently excellent food, we booked a table for four at 19.30. On arrival we entered the Bull & Bear & waited to be directed to a table. No one appeared. Eventually my wife went in search of a staff member & found a very young lady at the bar who told us to sit anywhere. We proceeded onto the terrace, sat at a table with bird poo on the table & dog poo on the floor nearby. Once again we waited for some time until the same very young lady asked for our drinks order. I asked for the table to be cleaned & commented on the dog poo. We had to ask for a menu. The young lady returned with one brief menu between us four & cleaned the table. The menu, sadly, bore no resemblance to the menu quoted on line & had nothing that attracted us. We informed the young waitress of our numerous adverse comments: no reception on arrival, dirty table, dog poo on floor & unexpectedly different menu and that we would not be eating and would leave after finishing our drinks. She said that she had reported our concerns to her boss. However, 'the boss' didn't have the decency to face us him/herself to apologise nor offer an...
Read moreFive stars for the way Lewis looked after us. My wife & I are moving to Xabia (next town down the road) very soon. We have had a horror story experience & had to come over from the UK at a few days notice to sort things out. We were treated with kindnes & sympathy. (Lewis listened to my grumbles far beyond the call of duty). Our room & ensuite bathroom were clean & comfortble. Half way through our five day stay we had fresh towels delivered to the room. The breakfasts were on a continental theme & varied daily. Meals were brought to the table & we were always asked if we needed anything else. Moreover my wife had to continue working online & was offered use of the bar during the closed hours of the day. On checkout, again because Liz had to work, we were told to take as long as necesary, not to rush & leaving mid afternoon was fine without incurring extra chatges. Our stay represented excellent value for money. I have stayed at far costlier, higher end establishments & not been looked after nearly as well. Thanks Lewis; you made a stresfull visit far more pleasant than it would...
