Restaurante Hero — Restaurant in els Poblets

Having booked in advance and liked the photos and reviews on Google, I was looking forward to a nice restaurant with white tablecloths and a high end experience as shown on their website and Google photos and Tripadvisor. This is not what I experienced! It's a roadside restaurant with an indoor space but most diners are seated in a tarpaulin covered "terrace" with plastic tables and dusty floor. We're we're seated by the door next to a gas heater that seemed to attract flies and bugs. Whilst the maitre d' was welcoming and friendly, he seemed preoccupied with a large group he seemed to know well. The rest of the staff are young and pleasant enough but inexperienced. One tall waitress thought it ok to fix her hair in full view of diners taking time to pull her into a bun, and then clip her hair in place whilst stray hairs floated all over customers. We ordered wine that finally arrived after we'd finished our starters. The food was good though. Lovely steaks and nice menu presentation. After we'd finished eating, they just ignored us, we had to go inside to get the bill as no one was managing the staff. Overall would not return, it's a nice menu and the food is good, it's just the poor front of house team, and the disappointing terrace that let's it down. Somos clientes habituales desde hace muchos años, siempre que vamos a Dénia no faltamos a nuestra cita en el restaurante Hero. Ya está todo dicho en los comentarios, mezcla cosas típicas de Holanda (sus panqueques de cualquier sabor son muy recomendables como entrante), con principales que le pueden gustar a cualquiera como carne o pescado. Acompañando a los platos principales, está lo que para mi es uno de los atractivos del restaurante; la guarnición. 1 cuenco de ensalada para cada comensal, un bol de patatas fritas, otro de patatas salteadas, otro de puré de patatas, y una fuente de verdura de temporada (brócoli, espárragos, zanahorias...). Para finalizar, uno de los estupendos postres que tienen; para los amantes del chocolate, un estupendo mousse envuelto en un hojaldre de barquillo y con nata alrededor. La atención de Hero, su propietario, siempre excelente, se nota que es una persona que le gusta cuidar a sus clientes

Como aspectos algo negativos: En primer lugar, los horarios. Recomiendo llamar para preguntar si están abiertos antes de ir, porque da la sensación de que cambian mucho los horarios de apertura y cierre. Durante los meses de verano, sólo están abiertos en horario de cena; esto no me gusta, porque al ser un sitio en el que sabes que vas a comer mucha cantidad de comida, cuando vas a comer tienes más apetito que cuando vas a cenar, por lo que muchas veces cuesta acabárselo todo en la cena. Otro aspecto negativo, tal vez los precios de algunos productos sean algo caros para mi gusto. Por ejemplo, el solomillo de ternera cuesta 23€, y sí, es de muy buena calidad, pero yo vivo en una zona (Sierra de Guadarrama) en la cual la carne es una de las mejores en calidad de España, y en los restaurantes de la zona el solomillo de ternera es más barato. No tienen botellas de agua de 1L, esto es muy común en la mayoría de restaurantes de la zona, y no me gusta; me resulta más cómodo pedir un par de botellas de 1L en vez de estar pidiendo cada dos por tres botellas pequeñas. Aunque, como veis, son detallitos que no manchan para nada la visita a este...

We were treated like royalty, with food to match all for $25 each + drinks.

Nothing was too much trouble for Hero, the wait staff are impeccable, the kitchen's talents shine from the plates and the owner has obviously been 'in this game a while'!

My wife and I cannot find a SINGLE FAULT with this establishment.
