La Calma Restaurant — Restaurant in Dénia

Service was very good. Food was good to very good. Atmosphere was excellent to outstanding. We’d go back for an evening cocktail and maybe a tapa or two. We would definitely order something different next time. The mixed salad was fresh and delicious. The ensalada rusa was also quite good. The one item we would not order again: boquerones fritos. They were over cooked and over crispy and over fried. Not a pleasant trifecta. We love boquerones fritos and these were so overdone that the delicate sardine meat was almost nonexistent as it had been cooked away. The wine we ordered was helpful to wash away the residual burnt oil flavor of the boquerones. So we came to this restaurant recommended by a friend and the experience has not been the one expected. The place is gorgeous as it is really close to the beach and very well decorated. We ordered “tellinas” as an appetizer (3/5) and for main course “Pez de la lonja” (4/5) and Angus burger (1/5) We got the tellinas really quickly, but waited more than 20 minutes to get our drinks (not any fancy coktail, just water and a coke). We complained about the Burger because it was cold. They apologized and they didn’t charge us this course (kind gesture). The service seemed lost and we felt a lot of tension among the waiters, making the service even worse.

I ordered ”pez gallo San Pedro” and got a fried cod fish. When I asked to talk to the manager, she claimed they have pez gallo on the menu but not San Pedro! I asked for the menu and she came with it after five minutes and admitted they made a mistake! 26 € for an ordinary fried cod fish is a little bit to much! And not according to what they pretend to be. She offered something else from the menu but I refused and then she said I don’t have to pay for the fish.
