Probably the best restaurant on the island.
A friend of mine, Ken, visited Santo Tomas regularly pre-Covid. He always posted of his visits to this restaurant and I decided it was time to check it out. Ken always told of how friendly the staff were and I mentioned to him that I was planning to visit to see how good it was.
I turned up one afternoon with my wife. I'd told Ken that I was planning to call. Me & my wife chose a table outside, just for a drink. We had no plans to eat there on that occasion. A waiter came and took our orders and returning with the drinks, he also brought a small dish of fried potatoes with a very potent sauce! We'd not asked for these but felt it rude to refuse. Did they offer this service to everyone?
When we'd finished our drinks I asked for the bill. I mentioned the potatoes and that we'd not asked for them. "Ah, but Ken told us you were coming!" was the response. Nice one Ken! Although we were staying in a resort over 30km away, we paid a return visit on that holiday for a meal.
The food is superb. On the island, you get typical pub food, usually catering for the Brits, then there's Es Pins. There's a wide choice on the menu and on further visits in future years (Menorca is one of our preferred holiday destinations, being only a 2-hour flight) we've visited at least once each time. The saying "you get what you pay for" applies here. While the prices may be slightly higher than other restaurants, the quality and presentation of the food is well worth the cost.
Our last time there, in September 2019, coincided with my birthday. Although we were staying all-inclusive at a hotel a mere 120 meters away, we still visited twice. The staff there are beginning to recognise us and when I mentioned that it was my birthday both me & my wife were given a free cocktail. A very nice gesture from very welcoming staff! Thanks Luis & Pawal and the rest of the team! Hope to visit again one day when the world returns to some kind...
Read moreHaving recently returned from our recent trip to Menorca, my husband and I still rate Es Pins as our favourite place to wine and dine in Santo Tomas. You're given a warm welcome upon arrival and the restaurant offers one of the best views in town. Manu runs a tight ship and it shows within his staff as their service and demeanor is excellent. (We shall especially miss Jose Manuel, Adrian & Robert for their fantastic service and keeping us entertained of an evening) I could find no fault with the food and I am a very fussy eater and any dietary needs were accommodated for with a smile. All the meat dishes (of which we tried a few - fillet steak on hot stone, ribs, lamb shoulder to name a few) were soft, tender and full of flavour. The fish dishes were also fresh and clean and if you don't try the garlic prawns then you'll be doing yourself a disservice. Portion sizes are very generous and worth every penny and it's not too costly either. With so many positives you may be thinking I was paid to write such a good review but it could not be further from the truth. It was a privilege to eat such good food and pay for the service we recieved. They are also due to open a rooftop bar so we can't wait to visit again next year and see what they done. We shall miss our Es Pins visits but rest firmly on our memories...
Read moreUpon arrival, the restaurant was almost empty, we were escorted to our table without a reservation by a gentleman with a very direct manner, not much hospitality. Our waiter was excellent with the service he provided but the food delivered was far from excellent! Ordered cheese croquettes to start which were the best part of the whole meal, little bit salty but tasty. Then came a very average grilled sea bass fillet and a dreadful plate of stewed beef cheeks. The beef cheeks were tough and flavourless. I had difficulty cutting them with the knife, stewed beef cheeks should be tender and easily pulled apart if cooked correctly. The waiter dealt with this very effectively and I ordered the wagyu beef burger instead. The burger again at €19.50 was below average and the accompanied curly fried potatoes were Luke warm... The waiter deducted the beef cheeks from the bill and apologised for the poor standard of the dish. Very disappointing experience which we hoped would be a great last night meal before...
