La Capannina: A Timeless Italian Culinary Gem
Returning to La Capannina, a restaurant that I first discovered 20 years ago, is always a highlight of my visits to this region. My latest experience was nothing short of amazing, reaffirming why this place has become a staple whenever I’m nearby. The food here is a true homage to Italian culinary traditions, focusing on simplicity and the purity of ingredients, and the flavors are simply sublime.
We started with a creamy burrata paired with ripe tomatoes, followed by a classic Caprese salad, each dish bursting with freshness. The pasta fini fini, rolled in a Parmesan wheel and generously topped with truffle, was a luxurious treat that perfectly captured the essence of Italian comfort food. And the minestrone was the epitome of heartiness, making us feel at home with its rich flavors.
The fact that the staff has remained consistent over the decades speaks volumes about the restaurant’s commitment to quality and tradition. It’s rare to find a place where the essence and excellence of food are preserved so well over the years. Though we had no space for dessert, the entire meal was a feast for the senses. La Capannina is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic and memorable Italian...
Read moreDinner started off very well. Atmosphere was quaint and cozy. Gentleman who seated us was charming and proficient. We ordered drinks, wine was solid. Starters were good (tomatoe soup was fantastic). Main courses were a mixed bag. Veal was fair and good, seabass just ok, and raviloli was amazing. Things went sideways when the waitress walked over and told some of the people at our table to put their cellphones away. Mind you no one at our table was using their phone, nor had they during the whole meal. The phones were just sitting on the table because it was uncomfortable for people to sit with phones in their pockets. I've never seen this before! Maybe if you're talking loudly on your phone and being disruptive to the restaurant I would get it. This was just crazy. To top it all off the same waitress at the end of the night demanded that someone take out their phone and take a picture of the bill. Oh well, makes for a...
Read moreI ordered a beer and juice, then I got an appetizer (bread, olives, butter). When the waitress came and asked what we wanted to eat, I ordered tiramisu (I wanted to wait a few minutes because I wasn't that hungry and I wanted dessert). She suggested that the kitchen would be closed soon and we should order now, we refused and then she took the treat from under her nose and the entire set of plates. The first time I encountered such a situation was in a restaurant... After that, I didn't order anything else. I hope that my opinion will give suggestions to the waitress on how to treat...
