Restaurante Chiringuito Valdearenas — Restaurant in Iznájar

Pre booked to come here with the family, adults and children, 19 of us total, we were all looking forward to celebrating my sons 30th birthday, on arrival we could see our table and sat down. The waiter came over and we preceded to order our drinks, we finally got through this as none of us speak Spanish. They then brought the menus and we choose our meal, as we don’t speak Spanish we pointed our meals out to the waiter and eventually managed to get through this, there wasn’t anyone that could help us with Spanish or explain things on the menus, we had our phones out to translate! The drinks arrived first and I know it was an accident but the waiter dropped the bottles of Fanta bottles on the table narrowly missing my baby grandson, the glass was all over table and the floor and from that moment on we were plagued by wasps,When the food arrived well not everyone’s we tried it , the T-bone steaks were full of fat and I mean full of fat, we couldn’t eat it was awful and we’re charged 30 euros instead of the 20! The children’s pasta and my sister in laws sword fish never arrived, and it was a constant battle to stop the wasps getting on our food which did arrive which was very stressful, the staff did nothing to help with this at all.we ended up sharing our food so that the 2 youngest members could eat and my sister in law shared her mothers meal, drinks that we ordered, not all of those arrived and to be honest the food in general was awful and most of us left our food as it just was not edible and were totally stressed out by this time and when we tried to explain our issues with them it was just near on impossible and the lady in charge was very aggressive and ended with them threatening us with the police, we ended up just paying as we all just wanted to leave as we had small children and it had totally ruined our sons 30th birthday , there was nothing wonderful about this place and would not recommend to anyone and when we finally left they waved us off sarcastically, shocking service avoid at all cost!! Hence...

We have had food at this restaurant previously but today, we felt the discrimination against the British. We were ignored and I had to ask for menus twice before we received them and tables coming in after us were served before us. This is not some sort of ‘we were here first’ rant, we were patient and courteous. I spoke Spanish to the staff where I could. It took over an hour to receive service. It was very frustrating and embarrassing for us. My husband and I are new residents to the country, and many would argue we are part of the problem. However, we hope that by ingratiating ourselves into our local community we can help reduce some of that negativity. We were keen to show our friends the beauty of the local area and generate, albeit small income for the locale, but were met with poor service and bad attitude. Understanding the issues many locals face, with gentrification happening around them, is not a Spanish problem, but it that has also been occurring in the UK for many years. Empathy runs short when you are treated like we were today. Very disappointing. Sadly...

AVOID. We tried to have dinner but in the end we walked out. Deliberately rude waiter. Not to do with the language - we speak good Spanish. We arrived about 7:30. There was one other table having drinks. We were ignored but after two trips inside to the bar we got some drinks. We were told that the kitchen opened at 8, fair enough. At 8:20 we asked for a menu and were told the kitchen didn't open until 8:30. At 8:40 we asked again for a menu. The waiter emerged from the bar and set up the table next to us - nobody at that table. Our table was not set up. he ignored us again. It was as if we were not there. We never got the menu. We left....... So bad, it seemed it could be a comedy programme set up! Try Spiaggia a little further up the beach. Great food and excellent...
