Living in central Spain, we are used to great meat dishes but love to come to the coast to get fresh seafood made by locals who are accustomed to doing it on a regular basis. We apparently found a restaurant on the coast that is vice versa, it can do decent meat dishes but woeful seafood! Babs loves a plate of clams with some fresh garlic and herbs (almejas al ajillo) so when we spotted them on the menu, there was no doubt we'd be ordering them. What we got was a bizarre mix of fresh clams in some weird milky, floury bland stock that didn't really taste of anything (were those indistinguishable bits floating in it garlic powder and dried herbs maybe? I can't be sure but fresh parsley and garlic at least can't be hard for a restaurant to source cheaply? If they were present in the dish, they were thrown in from a distance). More worryingly the restaurant staff seemed to think that this milky brothy soup was something to savour as they left it on our table for us to "enjoy" as they cleaned up our plates from our first course. I asked them to take it away so I didn't have to look at it anymore. What a way to destroy such a beautiful product! Oddly though the pork medallions I had for my main course we actually quite delicious and Babs enjoyed her goats cheese salad without it being anything to write home about. When we asked for a drink after our meal, it never arrived so we asked for the bill which no one wanted to come to charge so we just went up to the bar to pay it. It should be said that they took us for our evening meal without a reservation and apart from the problems stated above, the waiting staff were very friendly. Just don't...
Read moreWe had heard so many good things about this restaurant. So had to try. After reading all the comments, I was expecting a high end service and food of course.
Keep in mind we were early as usual 12.45 and the ONLY guests. When we sat down, I noticed the bowl for the olive oil was not clean. My plate was also not clean. I set the bowl aside. The server moved the bowl but didn’t remove or bring a clean one. I scraped the plated stains myself. As these plates are usually just decorative.
We ordered our beverages and then waited about 15 minutes before bread arrived. I politely declined the bread for myself. The bread was ADDED to the bill anyway 🤨 After another 40 minutes (according to the time stamp 12.36) we finally received our order.
Unfortunately the egg was obviously fried in old oil (visible on pics as brown spots). This dish - Chuleta Ternera - €40. You could at the least expect a nicely fried egg. The most disappointing fact was the starter - Gambas peri peri - €18. The kitchen was not able to clean the Gambas before serving. The intestines incl. what is in intestines was on my plate. And on top of that there were no visible spices NOR 🌶️ peri peri, more like a tomato 🍅 sauce.
Sorry to say …. very BIG...
Read moreBooked a table here as we heard it was good but was a little disappointed with the food. I was hoping it would have been better than it was. Service good except for the language barrier as the waiter could only speak Spanish, but he was very friendly and always smiling.
Ordered the tomahawk to share, and the waitress asked how we would like it to be cooked, which I thought since it is a big steak, I would go medium rare instead of rare. Firstly the fries came out first and sat getting cold while we waited for the steak, when the steak arrived it was sitting on a few coals to keep warm, but the steak was cold due to it being cooked on the blue side, this was quickly rectified after we called the waiter back, but unfortunately by this time the fries were inedible. The steak was nice, but I have had better at home.
On the other hand, the seafood garlic spaghetti was delicious, and the lamb was tasty.
So, we will be back again to try some different dishes and hope it is better than the...
