Bar Guerra feels like the kind of place you hope to stumble into but rarely do. A local institution with no pretense, just really good food, good energy, and a terrace full of people who look like they’ve been coming here for years.
The oysters were fresh and briny. Grilled white shrimp came out hot and smoky, with just the right amount of char. The Russian salad was comforting and well made.
The matrimonio was a simple plate, just white and salt-cured anchovies side by side, but it worked. Salty, punchy, and full of character. The fried baby squid was excellent. Light and crisp, and perfectly cooked. We had the fried eggs on the side, which worked well for the table. The prawn pil pil arrived bubbling in garlic oil and tasted as good as it smelled. The chicken livers didn’t quite land. Not bad, just a bit forgettable next to everything else. Patatas bravas were the only real letdown. The potatoes were good but the sauce didn’t carry its weight.
The service was warm and genuine. It felt like a village spot, where they recognize faces and actually care. They take their time, but never leave you hanging. It’s unhurried in that coastal way, where meals stretch out and no one’s watching the clock.
Bar Guerra is the kind of place you think about the next day. Not for one show-stopping dish, but for how it all came together. The food, the room, the people. You don’t find places like this often, and when you do,...
Read moreAwful experience, which is a disappointment. Very unfriendly staff, which is extremely unusual for San Pedro ( have been coming here for over 20 years).Too few waiters on, so it seemed very unorganised. I gave the food one star as we (family of five) only got to eat bread (tasteless and no olive oil) and packet of crackers (the highlight). Had finished our drinks and still waiters studiously avoided taking our order for tapas. After a long wait (@1 hour altogether ) decided to pay for drinks and leave and go to one the many good restaurants/tabernas in San Pedro for food. Charged us for the “bread” as well as the drinks. Another venue would have been embarrassed charging for the bread after such poor service. Wasn’t worth the bother arguing. Definitely won’t go back and will not be...
