The reasons for this rating are very simple, the prices are insulting, the food was presented as if it came from a bar charging 1/10 the price and one other reason I'll explain at the end.
If you go to tragabuches or any dani garcia restaurant for that matter you are paying for image ONLY. This restaurant charges insanely high prices for what you get. The food was fine, thats not the problem, but its bar food. they are masquerading as authentic Andalusian cuisine but dont be fooled. It is overpriced and pretentious. If you want authentic go to any bar in san pedro. Literally any bar is better than this place, its bar food with a mask. Avoid this, and all dani garcia restaurants at all costs, they are tourist traps and local spaniards to not go to them.
Now the last reason was the last straw for me with this restaurant group. In the middle of our meal we were asked if we wanted some truffle to put on top of one of our dishes. We said sure. Then there was a cart that came over and shaved some truffle for us. So far so good. The truffle was tasteless to begin with but thats far from the worst part. When we went to pay the bill we were hit with 55 euros in charges for the truffle, which we were NOT warned about. Whats worse is the table next to us said yes to the truffle as well (this was after we already had the truffle) and they were warned of the outrageous price of it BEFORE they got it. We paid to not cause a fuss, but it didnt sit right with me so I emailed the restaurant the next day to ask for a refund for the truffle that we werent warned about and would have NEVER gotten if we had known and they refused. Very ratty behaviour. I wish I would have just disputed the charge on my credit card at this point. Avoid at all costs unless you like...
Read moreI hope this place lives forever! Very high quality food with a focus on local produce where possible, excellent EXCELLENT staff, amazing drinks menu (including short, but very impressive non-alcoholic cocktails menu), and a great lunch / dinner menu with different daily specials every day. They also have a wonderful breakfast menu with very reasonable prices. Dani Garcia is clearly a very talented chef, and his talent here shines through the small details, like a perfect simple Spanish omelette, which is easy to make, but HARD to make so well as they do here, or the perfectly cut high quality tuna for the tartar. I actually much prefer Tragabuches to his more fancy places, where the food - of course - is excellent too. I mean, a lot of chefs can create an excellent steak place, but few know how to celebrate local tomatoes in a way that his kitchen does here. And the desserts! I am not even that much into desserts, but everything on their desserts menu is just amazing. A lot of places in Marbella can say they serve torrijas, but you haven’t really tasted it until you tried a torrija here. It’s heavenly. There is also a big beautiful kids play room, slightly separated from the main dining area to keep the noise away, but still visible from a large chunk of tables for those parents who want to keep an eye on their little ones. This is my absolute favourite restaurant on the entire Costa del Sol, and we have been coming here for quite some time. It is absolutely perfect every time. My only lament is that they took out the “Beautiful tomatoes salad” from the menu recently. I’d like to start a petition to...
Read moreI definitely do not recommend this restaurant because the service completely undermines the great work of the chefs. The food, with two exceptions, was delicious. We only returned a T-bone steak that was completely cold (they didn't even charge us for that) and we also returned fries that were floating in oil. The rest of the food was great, but the overall impression was ruined by the incredibly unprofessional service of the restaurant.
The waiters brought us two different menus to start with, so after 5 minutes we found out that we were each choosing from different menus. The daily specials were not presented to us at all. When choosing the dishes, the staff did not know what was in the food and could not explain the ingredients of each dish. So the waiter kept running off to ask the cooks. The gluten-free bread was not brought until 30 minutes after ordering.
When they brought the food, they just put it on the table and didn't present it, so we were just guessing and asking what we got on the table. The fact that they didn't refill the wine glasses and twice brought an empty pepper grinder just underlines everything.
The biggest mistake and annoyance, which doesn't even happen in normal restaurants, is that during the dinner the staff talked to each other across the table. There was a cashier behind our table, so any communication was mainly through our table - shouting at each other. Unacceptable!
We are very disappointed and it is not surprising that the last restaurants of The Group have not been successful in Marbella. This is yet another tragic attempt....
