The Drunk Monk — Restaurant in Mataró

As we entered and went to take a vacant table we were called back by one presumes landlady, who asks how many we were and promptly shows us to the table we were going to sit at in a half empty venue. Then makes some comment about us (one presumes being English) in Spanish to other customers, who look at us and laugh. If you don't like or want the English then don't present your bars name in English.

Reasonable range of beers, few local to Spain. All very strong. No real non beer, spirit, choice. One of the cask Belgium beers (Kwak) tasted off, perhaps sat in pipes too long. (We've drunk plenty of the stuff in Ghent so know what it should taste like).. not cheap.

To cap it all got shouted at when we opened the fridge doors to review the bottled/canned selection. One highly positive, the bar tender (employee) was gracious enough to tell us the one we had chosen was €18 a small bottle, so we put that one back.

Had one drink, didn't feel welcomed or that the place was cozy or atmospheric etc and left. Pity as we'd made a special trip...

Two stars for the two delicious beers we've had. Unfortunately the waitress was very unkind and not helpful at all, she preferred to hang at the table where her friends were sitting. The only thing she actively did was asking for our qr codes, not even a hello when we entered. Nachos were alright but the croquetas were...

Great selection of draft beers and very good prices (much cheaper then Barcelona!). Good music, comfortable setting and cool historical pictures on the wall. Staff seemed a bit busy to chat (as it was 1800 and they seemed to be still setting up) but definitely would be back again to try...
