Max Beach — Restaurant in Mijas

Lovely location but service unbelievably slow! The waitress may be very handsome and the waitresses very pretty... But if they can't manage to get five drinks ordered ....and deliver to your table in 20 minutes... What is the point? we could see our drinks waiting on the bar while no less than nine waiting staff wandered around... one of them fixed his hair so many times I was tempted to go and brush it myself! If I'm paying 10 euros for a gin and tonic I at least expected to be brought to me before the ice has melted. 5 of us at the table and the waiter took an order from three people and then just walked away... When we called him back he said he didn't realize that we all wanted drinks! As we had just arrived we thought that was most unusual. When the drinks did arrive ....out of the five drinks two of them were wrong. Having taken so long to get the first to drink... I we ordered a second round while still halfway through the first. We had all finished our drinks I'm still wasted an additional 10 minutes before the second round arrived. it's a really beautiful venue but I hope the next time we go back the staff have actually been trained to serve customers rather than just make the place look pretty. I suppose you could say they're not pushy... But you should really not be thirsty when you go. there was also a DJ which we found rather strange has he played the same type of music for over 3 hours and never spoke a word. We are a family of 4 and had booked a table for an evening meal 2 months prior to arriving in Calahonda. We decided to go for drinks on 2 separate occasions before our reservation in a few days time. On both occasions we were shown to a table then pretty much ignored, we had to ask someone if they could take our drinks order. On our second visit for drinks we left extremely disappointed - 2 of us ordered the freshly prepared peach iced tea which was overpowered with lemon and very bitter (not like the first time we ordered them). When we brought this to the waitresses attention she moodily removed the drinks. We were sat right next to the bar so could see and hear everything. The barman put a straw into the drink and tasted then shrugged his shoulders and shook his head whilst talking to the waitress. The waitress came over and told us the drinks were fine and they were supposed to have lemon in it. I then had to again tell the waitress that the drinks were too overpowered with lemon and unpleasant to drink and not like the first drinks we had. The drinks were eventually changed (by changed I mean they weren’t freshly made up again, extra syrup was added to the same drinks to counteract the bitterness) but it left a very uncomfortable atmosphere and it was clear the waitress and barman were unhappy with us. Booked Max Beach for a birthday for the day. We got 4 double beds beside the pool for 8 people. Staff were accommodating with the balloons we brought etc. Really nice setting and pool.

So I wanted to order a bottle of Moet for the birthday celebrant for when she arrived and online it says you get a fruit platter if you order one but when I asked they said it was only online and because we didn’t book the beds and the Moet together we couldn’t avail of this deal.

We decided after that we would order the Moet until I asked one of the waiters and he basically laughed in my face when I asked for the 70cl saying that there is 8 of you why don’t you get a magnum size. I told the waiters from the start that everyone was drinking different drinks so we didn’t want a big bottle.

This went on and on for the whole time we were there everytime we ordered a drink.

We ordered a bottle of vodka for us to share and they brought the wrong mixers and started to pour the drinks while we still had cocktails. We felt like they were just trying to empty the bottle faster to make us buy more.

We ended up eating dinner here for a table of 10 and we found the food was not as good as last year and the waiter said there was a new chef. We have attached the pictures of the Bao Buns to show the difference.

Overall not a great experience considering we were there all day and we had recommended it to all...
