I am a resident of over 20 years here in Gran Canaria. I live on the opposite site of the island, but my wife and I have a little tradition. Every year on Boxing Day we drive around and through the island. At the end of our annual trip we always finish with dinner at the Acaymo restaurant.
But yesterday was so bad that I will never ever return there. Whoever this new owner is, he has ruined the place. Yes, some of the visual things were updated and modernised, but 'Oh my God', everything else has lost its charm, warmth, human touch and the food is now utterly bland, tasteless and can only be described at best as 'Tourist' fare.
Besides this, the waiters are still amazing, but you can not even leave a tip anymore if you pay by card! Usually I ask to add 10-15% to the charge on my card so the great staff can get a little something for their hard work.
But when I tried to do this yesterday I was told that the new owner does no longer allow this, why? Even at the place where I got a new tyre fixed to my car this week they let me leave a tip for the guy who did the job on my card payment!
I feel bad for the staff there as it is clear that they are not getting valued by this new owner.
I could go on and on, but my main problem is this; what on earth has happened to the previously amazing tasting food? It is now all plain tasting, bland, without the usual rich Canarian amazing flavours that the Acaymo was so loved for.
I have literally no idea how anyone can manage to cook out all of the flavours of Pimiento Padron or have a 'Mojo' sauce on your 'Papas Arrugadas' taste of nothing!
If you used to love this place, then please listen to me; never go back there again, because you will now be severely disappointed!
Oh, and before I forget it, of course the prices have been increased, which I really would not mind if at least the quality of the food...

The staff where very friendly and accommodating as when we arrived or my friends car battery was dead and needed a jump start every time we arrows so had to ask them if someone could do it when we left.
The food was delicious, one of the cheapest places we ate which was awesome.
We had an abundance of food, between the three of us and it only cost us just over €100!
We ate...
The canaries style octapus - delicious
Black pudding - which was a sweet one with cinnamon in it. (not my favourite)
Fried cheese and jams - delicious
This raw beef that is cute into almost see through pieces - nice
The two person platter which had a load of different things on it - was very good indeed!
Tiger mussels - which we had never come across before - turned out to be a stuffed mussels, breadcrumbs and fried very tasty indeed
I will definitely recommend thug place to snottiness travelling here as again, the food is awesome and great value. The view from the terrace of the mountain is beautiful and I must give a great thanks to the waiter, a chap who studied and worked in the UK, he was great and very helpful and...
Read moreExcellent Spanish Restaurant. We came here several times last September and we have returned to stay at Finca El Moral in Las Burillas this week. The restaurant in only five minutes drive from where we are staying. The waiters and waitress were still the same.No new staff. The waitress remembered our visits to the restaurant last September. The service is professional yet friendly. We were given a piece of deep fried breaded cheese on the house before our meal, and it was delicious. The bread was warm and fresh and the alioli had stacks of garlic in it! Lovely. I had the fillet of pork in Porto sauce.Beautifully cooked and very pleasantly flavoured. My husband had the fillet of Seabass in a spinach sauce which he thought was perfect. There's a varied wine list, including a half bottle section. We asked for brandy with our coffee, and we were presented with a very generous amount!! We sat outside on the elevated terrace with views of the immediate hill.Nice setting. Inside it is very rustic and spacious with an open...
