Review of Playa Blanca 29th Sept 2018
We met friends here who wanted to see Jack Law before they went home.
When we arrived there weren't many people which was surprising as Jack is well known and well supported in Mojacar and in the past places have been crammed with customers.
The venue is very attractive, part covered part open and with a view of the beach, you can hear the surf.
We agreed to eat from the Menu del Dia which was some where in the region of €14-15.
It was fairly limited with perhaps 4-5 starters, mains and Deserts.
We both chose the Pate which was fairly bland (a pity because there are some great tasting Pate's available in the supermarkets and we've become regular consumers) and it was served with the tiniest little pieces of toast (about an inch square) in the shape of a slice of bread.
Unfortunately there wasn't enough toast to support all the Pate so we ended up leaving some.
The main course was fine.
I had a Pork dish with Pepper sauce (and chips) though the sauce wasn't the least bit hot or spicy, it was more like a white sauce but the main over all was fine.
My partner had fish which was a good size but she felt it was over cooked so lost some of its flavour.
We were given a desert menu but when we chose, we were told these options weren't available and we were given a verbal list of options. I didn't recognise some and didn't fancy the others, so we decided not to have a pudding.
Wine was fine, drinks were fine and service was reasonable if less than attentive.
Unfortunately there was very little atmosphere even though a few more guests had arrived, Jack gave a professional performance yet people still started to drift off.
We left at 11.pm as our bus was due and our friends were expecting their taxi, which only left a few people in the restaurant.
Playa Blanca may be suffering from the local competition which is intense.
The food could easily be improved without too much effort.
Service was reasonable but they may need to be a bit more attentive?
The venue is beautiful, and this should be a great place to listen to live music but on this occasion didn't draw the crowds.
Maybe its just the wrong end...

Una auténtica pena que un sitio tan bien ubicado, tan cuidado, bonito y con unas vistas espectaculares esté tan mal atendido. Es la primera vez que, con un entorno y una comida de esta calidad, me veo obligado a poner una reseña tan baja. Llevo un año deseando compartir con mi familia y amigos un rato agradable para el recuerdo y es imperdonable que, por la desidia y la desgana de una persona tan frustrada en su trabajo, hayamos tenido que pasar una sobremesa tan desagradable.
Hicimos una reserva el 15 de agosto a las 15:00 para 10 personas, con un encargo previo de paella de marisco para cinco. Al sentarnos, la mesa tenía los cubiertos apilados en el centro y, tras esperar 10 minutos sin que nadie nos atendiera, mi mujer tuvo que entrar al local a pedir las cartas.
La camarera que nos tocó, una chica alta y morena, fue el claro ejemplo de alguien sin ganas de trabajar ni de tratar con clientes. Un ejemplo: pedimos un vino blanco frío para acompañar la paella y nos trajo otro distinto. Cuando se lo comentamos, nos respondió que del que habíamos pedido no quedaba, pero “se le olvidó” decírnoslo antes.
Más tarde pedimos una Coca-Cola Zero y un vaso con hielos para el agua de los niños (que, por cierto, nos la trajo caliente). Como pasaban los minutos y no lo traía, tuve que entrar yo mismo al local: la encontré charlando con otras dos camareras, mientras la Coca-Cola y el hielo estaban en la barra. Al preguntarle, me contestó con toda la cara: “Cógelo, si es lo de tu mesa”. Encima la Coca-Cola era normal, no Zero, como habíamos pedido.
En cuanto a la comida: los boquerones, el calamar frito y las sardinas estaban bastante bien, y el arroz de marisco también a un nivel bastante bueno.
El problema volvió con los postres: nos dijo que solo había brownie y tarta de manzana, y que para los niños no tenían “ni una bola de helado”, que si queríamos, los compráramos en el puesto de abajo. Un amigo fue con los niños a por helados, mientras pedimos un brownie, unos chupitos y tres copas. Cuando regresó, todavía no habían servido nada. Al final llegó con un número diferente de chupitos de los pedidos, de otro tipo distinto y aún faltaban las copas y el brownie. Diez minutos más tarde trajo las copas y nos informó de que “el brownie está en la cocina preparado, pero el personal de cocina ya se ha ido y ella no pasa a cocina porque su función es servir mesas”. Así que mi amigo se quedó sin postre.
Para rematar, al pedir la cuenta la primera vez olvidó incluir las copas y tuvo que traerla corregida.
Importante destacar que cuando llegamos a las 14:50 el local no estaba lleno, y durante toda la comida tampoco hubo gran afluencia, por si alguien piensa que la camarera estaba saturada de trabajo. De hecho, me fijé en la otra parte de la terraza, atendida por una chica latina más bajita, cuya actitud y rapidez fueron totalmente distintas, nada que ver con la “fenómena” que nos tocó que venía a atendernos casa 10 o 15 minutos a la mesa.
En resumen: una auténtica lástima. La comida, la ubicación y las vistas podían haber hecho de este día algo memorable, pero el pésimo trato y la desidia de una sola persona lo...

AVOID - lovely setting - shocking service!! Expensive too 4 beers, a small mixed salad and a chicken curry was €41!!!! The young waitress is nice but the “gentleman” waiter has real issues He practically threw the plates down on table next to us and was rude and surly when taking our order My dorada arrived uncooked in the middle and when I told him it wasn’t cooked he just whisked the dish away without an apology or an intention to bring another dish I just ate the salad and potatoes and after 10 or so mins he brought the SAME FISH back - charred and burnt I was speaking in Spanish so there were no Communication issues - when i complained he just walked away - just didnt care i did not eat it or pay for it there are 100 better dining options so do not bother with this one they don't deserve...
