absolutely sublime! This place had hands down the best paella I have ever had in my entire life. El Palanqui is an Adorable little beach side family restaurant located on the Tamariu promenade. It’s hard to spot amongst the row of identical beachfront restaurants, but if ever in tamariu, search for the restaurant with the awning titled El Palanqui. While the restaurants themselves may all look similar, the heart and soul of the places are all different. It’s often said that the best food is made with love and this place exudes the love and reverence for the ocean and absolute perfection for anything they place in front of their customers. Casual and unassuming, yet the flavors are perfectly stunning. In addition to perfection regarding their food, they have the atmosphere of a place you want to come back to over and over. I cannot express my gratitude to them. one day in the middle of a massive rain storm, when all the other small restaurants along the walkway shut their doors and looked away when two weary American travelers peeked in, the friendly gentleman at el palanqui, instead of turning away, graciously waved us in. Wet, like drowned rats, and grateful for the welcoming invitation, we ventured inside, where the amazing aroma of fresh seafood and simmering garlic filled the air. We sat down and were immediately made to feel welcomed by the sweet family that runs this charming restaurant. We were offered a gift of hot fresh steamed mussels in a delicious garlic broth while we decided on our orders. We ordered the seafood paella and it was the most gorgeous paella, huge prawns , a whole lobster, loaded with clams, mussels and other fruits de mer. The lovely young lady explained it was a traditional Catalan style paella. It was a little darker in color with such rich deep flavors, every bit of the seafood and rice were perfectly cooked. I had never experienced such a feast in one dish! I highly recommend and thank the owners of this Fabulous gem of...
Read moreWe love El Palangui. We have been living here for about 20 years and not once have we had a bad meal at El Palangui. It is our place to go when we are hiking the Cami de Ronda and the staff are always friendly, cheerful and pleased to see us. The food is very good "standard seafood" that you would expect in a small village restaurant. We can't go there without having Chipprones, almejas, calamaris and fideuá with a bottle or nice, cold, dry white wine and a beer or two. Someone has written a really bad review of this place. I can't understand the reasons for doing this, the food is excellent and not expensive and the staff have always provided an excellent service to me, my family and all of our friends. The setting is good, you are right on the seafront and you can't get any closer without getting your feet wet. They have inside tables and a terrace and (2020) have been open (restrictions allowing) all through the Coronavirus pandemic. It shows a lot when most of their competition is closed and they are full. You really can't go wrong with this place. 5 stars,...
Read moreJust a warning that they're very selective about their customers. My wife, daughter and I tried to have a drink at El Palanqui. It was extremely quiet in Tamariu and most outdoor tables were unoccupied.
Despite this, the waitress was insistent that they had a reservation for the exact number of outdoor tables that were free. She wasn't particularly apologetic about this. Unusually, none of the tables were marked as being reserved. How hard is it to put a sign on the table?
The village was empty and it still wasn't particularly close to the time of the reservation (some 20 to 30 mins away at least). There was literally nobody in sight and all we wanted was to have a quick drink. Seems strange that they prefer to turn away customers!
We won't be bothering them with our money again. Looks like they don't need it which is surprising when you consider the pandemic and the state of the economy. If you go to Tamariu, you're best off trying some of the other establishments who are more in need...
