La Taberna — Restaurant in Rojales

I visited this bar recently when the footie was on, I went inside and a dark haired girl was behind the counter, half bending down under the counter. I waited for her to pop up and I asked for a drink, she told me to “wait outside” like a headmistress and I was on the naughty step. I went outside and sat with about ten customers, still soldering and waiting if my drink was on its way or…..then after about five minutes, the “headmistress “ just walked out into the street and disappeared amongst the sparse groups of people dotted about. At this point, I figured my drink was not arriving, so I got up and found another bar, The Red bar as it’s known locally and stayed in there till midnight. In this current climate, I thought that some people would be going the extra mile for customers, but I just wanted a simple courtesy. When I told some people back on my complex, they all said the girls name and it was par for the course, which I find extraordinary. One even suggested that it was as if she is running the business down deliberately, which I find perverse. Manners cost nothing, but that probably explains why I would never return. Having run about 12 venues personally, I wonder why some people bother....

We came in hoping for a based lunch, but it turned out to be very cringe.

First off I was served a cappuccino which tasted pure water, and I assume it was powdered cappucino. 2 euros for a free package you could've picked up at an airport or something. Sad!

Later we had a bolognese, sandwich with meatballs and some tapas.

The bolognese was ok, but oily.

The sandwich was bland and mushy, and the meatballs were cooked poorly, just boiled in sauce.

For tapas the calamari was completely tasteless and extremely chewy and the omelette was bland. The cheese and ham plate was pretty nice, but a two year old could make a decent place of cheese and ham. We asked for pork skewers, but were given chicken, and was told "we...

Elisa and Elwyn are always friendly professional and accommodating. The drinks are also good value - especially before 8pm. They have great live entertainment and we go most weekends.
