This place doesn't particularly catch one's attention when walking by, as the entrance is on a side street and there are flashier places along the same street with waiters pestering passers-by, trying to entice them to come in. But this place, unlike the others, is NOT a tourist trap, and makes the best paella we've eaten in Roses (possibly the whole of the Costa Brava).
Everything I've ever tried here was EXCELLENT, from their tapas (the homemade "croquetas" are delicious, the ibérico ham they serve is very good and their "pulpo a la Gallega is one of the best I've had outside the North-West coast of Spain) to their paella. We tried the "paella de bogavante" (lobster paella) and couldn't have been more satisfied: excellent, to say the least.
Their choice of wines is also excellent, and they know their wines so don't hesitate to let them advise you. The service is beyond amiable--warm, friendly and attentive--and the atmosphere is pleasant and homely (the wood and sea-shells really do give it a unique touch). To be honest, I can't think of a single negative point to mention in this review!
We spent quite a while chatting with the owners and were pleased to find out that it's a family-run business (which is, sadly, becoming increasingly rare nowadays). Will definitely be returning here (every time we...
Read moreFriendly welcome, busy restaurant. We arrived at about 8.30 pm for dinner. We ordered quite quickly and the vegetables and wine arrived in a reasonable time but we waited about an hour for our seafood and meat dishes. Staff were busy or otherwise engaged. Several people came and left before being served. We were almost the last table to receive our food and service decreased as the evening got later. We were left with a strong smelling detergent beside us at the end and nobody around to ask to...
