Attention grabbing places can be over-rated and ordinary as are many here in Roses. While some on the same streets don’t make a fuss, but can be spectacular without self hype.
I write on the merits of the latter category for Gaia which my family and I have visited regularly over the past four years, each time feeling at home in a charming garden, with service so attentive and friendly, and a kitchen that produces superb, creative food in servings that don’t make you feel like you’ve been put on a diet.
In the last week we ate here on three occasions, and each time this team was gracious and attentive and the kitchen produced without flaw, some very creative dishes you will not find elsewhere in this beach town.
There are so many standouts on the menu and among the daily specials. Today tartlets of mussels in a sauce piementon perfumed sauce that was part of a fixed lunch special we matched with pimientos padron, ceviche, and tuna tartare. Everything was correct, beautifully composed and served with generous pours of a house wine by the glass. Previous visits the salad rocamadour, seafood zarzuela, white brownie with pistachio ice cream, and on and on.
Why this restaurant is not packed, night and day, I do not know. Roses is clearly a tough place to earn a living, but the people at Gaia deserve credit for their amazing work and kindness, and we deserve many more seasons of their creative fine food...
Read moreWe were so very disappointed with our dinner this evening. Sweet potato with ceviche???? Pork chop dish presented on a fancy glass dish, stone cold, I mean fridge cold, potato & some sort of jam???? We really questioned this meal, so much so that we wondered if Mc Donald’s on our way home would have been a tastier option. We would not return, nor would we recommend….we did not leave a tip (most unusual for us) we did not finish our wine nor order coffee/dessert…..we left asap….many alternative delicious options in Roses……GOZOS……TABERNA LAS TABLAS ….delicious nearby...
