The Grill House – La Marina

Located in La Marina, approximately a 25-minute drive from Ciudad Quesada, The Grill House is a well-decorated, modern, and comfortable restaurant spread across two levels. The terrace, situated at the rear and accessible via stairs, is our preferred spot, we always request a table there to enjoy the outdoor ambiance.

Over the past two years, we’ve dined at The Grill House numerous times, and it has never disappointed. The restaurant is owned and expertly run by the attentive host, Rebecca, who ensures seamless operations. Her assistant, Tomás (as far as we know), adds to the lively atmosphere - a humorous, engaging young man who makes sure every guest has a fantastic time.

The menu is extensive and surprisingly affordable, offering a three-course set menu for just €19.50 (with some supplements). We’ve sampled many dishes, all of which were fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented. Our favourites include the Smoked Salmon, Chicken Wings, Fillet Steak, and Ribeye Steak.

A standout is the Smoked Salmon with Sour Cream, Mashed Potatoes, and Wakame -unlike traditional smoked salmon, this dish features cubes of smoked gravlax, accompanied by delicate filo pastry wraps of wakame and dollops of creamy mash (a small supplement applies). The Chicken Wings are perfectly crispy with a delicious sauce, while the Steaks are served on Roasted Vegetables and Mash, (with a supplement) are absolutely to die for.

The service is both friendly and efficient, making every visit a pleasure. It’s no wonder we keep coming back.

Five stars - well deserved, Grill House!

If there’s one thing that nearly kept us away from The Grill House, it was an issue we encountered on a previous visit: the accordion player who circulates among the tables. While we understand that this type of live music can enhance the dining experience for some, we personally prefer a quieter atmosphere. On that occasion, when we politely declined to offer money, his reaction was verbal aggression and each subsequent visit has always been persistent muttered remarks when he past our table, which made us uncomfortable.

Absolutely gutted!! This was our favourite restaurant, our goto place for anniversaries, birthdays or when friends and family stayed. Went there last night and 90% of the staff have changed. We were left at the reception desk while staff walked past us without a sideways glance. Eventually we were seated and our menus delivered. First thing you notice is that the price has gone up, fair enough prices are rising everywhere. Then you notice that dishes that were included in the set price menu now have a supplement, a sneaky double price rise. We ordered our starters and when they arrived we noticed that the portions had gotten smaller. My wife did not even get what she had ordered and when we brought this to the staffs attention they just said that is the way the new cook makes it now. Onto the main. I loved this place for its steaks but not only had the size of the steak halved but it was very tough, i must have got the bottom of the frozen chip bag as I had all those scrappy bits and again the portion had halved. I have always tipped heavily in this place, direct to the staff as the owners do not share the tips with the staff. However, for the first time i payed the bill to the exact cent. I do not mind price increases but if you are going to charge me more then I expect the same excellent quality I had before. Update June 7, 2025: Anniversary dinner, we do love this place. We did enjoy our food, however would like the chef to know the shrimp on the Surf and Turf, were mushy. Exquisite smoky flavor, but mushy. Setting in water or refrozen a couple of times? And the French fries appeared to be left too long between fries, a bit rubbery. Otherwise the steak and the Steakhouse burger were delicious. The Cesar Salad and the Smoke salmon salad were also good. That's why we took it from a 5 star to a 4 star.

Previous rating, all 5 stars. Went for husband's birthday Oct 19, just wonderful food. Husband's Steakhouse burger and my Surf&Turf were delicious, perfectly cooked with a smoky flavor. Even the chicken strips in the Cesar Salad were smoky and juicy. Beautifully presented with vegetable and salad garnishes with slight twists like refreshing pear cubes that showcase the chef's talent and imagination. Staff are busy but so friendly. We travel there for special occasions and wish we lived closer to come more often. Well worth the price,...
