Es Caliu Ibiza — Restaurant in Sant Joan de Labritja

Was debating between 3 and 4 stars on this one. Gave 4 due to overall, a positive experience at this restaurant. However, some oddities that are worth mentioning.

On the plus side, it's a huge beautiful outdoor space. They were able to accommodate our larger party for dinner. Food and drinks were good. They brought us complimentary amuse bouche and a dessert limoncello drink for everyone.

I found it extremely odd that the restaurant allowed us to make a 6PM dinner reservation despite the fact that they open at 7PM. I have several email communications with them back and forth where the time of the reservation is very clearly stated and confirmed and reconfirmed (they even reached out to me over email twice to reconfirm the reservation and time ...6PM). In addition to this, I had previously paid a deposit for a cake they were making for us. Despite this, we arrive at 6PM and the staff were confused. Didn't't we know they don't open until 7? They were friendly and polite and offered us drinks at the bar. We were okay with this, but we tried to clearly communicate to them that we needed to leave by 9PM to attend an event.

I personally spoke to the waiter several times regarding our timeline and when we would need to leave. Unfortunately, they were not respectful of this fact and despite frequent check ins, the pace of dinner was one of great spacing in between courses. This ultimately lead to us missing an event we paid good money to see which was very disappointing.

Also, when it came time to pay the bill, they did not apply the deposit (wire transfer) that I had paid them earlier to secure our reservation. When I originally paid the deposit, I asked for confirmation of receipt and the restaurant responded back to me "we'll let you know if we don't receive it," so it was very odd and frustrating to have to on the spot (with poor Wifi) find proof of this historic transaction. It didn't help us get to our event any faster.

(2023) Tonight we were here and after been here several times, this was our last time. The food was not as good as before, the hake was dry and not properly seasoned. Service was not as it should be, we had to wait quite some time for our coffee and dessert and the bill. The waitress was way more interested in her friends with a baby than taking care after her customers. When we told her about our experience, she just ignored it and wished us a good night. Recommended by our concierge @ ME Ibiza. We had just landed into Ibiza and wanted something easy. Was a bit sceptical when we arrived as it's just on the main high way (not waterfront) but a beautiful garden in the back where the seating is surrounded by lemon trees. The food is very nice, make sure you order a plate of jamon it's Devine. Great wines too. The selection isn't huge but it suited our needs for the evening.
