We have a property local to this restaurant and have dined here on several occasions in the past, with mixed feelings. The food is ok, but after numerous visits, it’s clear the service is not. We decided to give it one last shot tonight, to see if it had improved. Sadly not! Firstly, the greeting on reception, who couldn’t find our reservation & then stated we had incorrectly booked for 4 persons, instead of 2 (we hadn’t). Ordered pre-meal drinks and then bombarded with 5 waiters, giving out menus, pressuring us to order and giving us sausages, bread sticks & olives, which we didn’t want, but was told quite insistently by the waiters that they were included ‘on the house’, so reluctantly we accepted them. Starters and wine were brought out before we’d even started our pre-meal drinks. Then told the mistaken booking for 4 persons was the reservation after us and we only had the table for the next hour! Main courses (which were very salty) were brought out literally straight after the starters were cleared off the table, giving us the impression of wanting to hurry us out of there. Waiters were running around the place all the time, not knowing what each other was doing (some being told off by the head waiter in front of us) making the atmosphere not very comfortable or relaxed at all. Ironically, when we'd finished the meal we were then totally ignored for 30 minutes (the next reservation obviously didn’t materialise). Eventually we got their attention and asked for the bill. To top it off, the supposed ‘on the house’ appetisers were charged for. When questioned, the waiter quite rudely said we had been told incorrectly that they were non-chargeable, accusing us of lying. Having agreed to pay anyway, he just grunted and abruptly sorted the bill. It’s not about the cost of the appetisers, it’s about the poor attitude and a feeling of being treated disingenuously. So, in conclusion, if you want to eat at a nice friendly relaxed restaurant, with great food/ambience and a feeling of your custom being appreciated, don’t waste your money and time visiting Restaurante En Caragol. Instead, go to the many other good restaurants nearby (ie. Barracuda, Sa Cova, Bambú). We shall never go back here or recommend to our large network of family/ friends in the area, which is a shame, as it could be a really nice local restaurant to visit and spend your hard...
Read moreMy partner and I walked the Cami last week and we ended in Biniancolla at a friend's place. We ate at many OK restaurants on the island - the vast majority are really similar to each other. This restaurant is an exception. Everything about the restaurant is fantastic. I will briefly outline the highlights of our experience for a weekday dinner (cost 110 euros: 1 bottle of white wine, 2 beers, 2 starters and 2 main courses and cocktails at the end).
The service is outstanding with multiple staff attending to us throughout the meal. We only had a similar experience at Sa Llagosta in Fornell (which was also excellent). They catered to our language issues (we spoke English) and gave excellent recommendations for food and wine.
The food was outstanding. We had grilled octopus, Menorcan cheese plate and had the black rice (inked rice) with seafood. Each dish was unique from all other restaurants we went to - and we went to maybe 10-20 other places in the week we walked the island.
The ambience and decor was amazing. It was a stormy night in late September when we visited and even after the wind and lightning kicked in we stuck around for a last drink because it was such a comfortable and nice environment.
If you pass within 20km of this place and don't visit it will be...
Read moreWhilst out for the day we ended up in sant Lluis and feeling hungry and looking for somewhere for lunch, there wasn't too many options in this area but we stumbled upon Restaurante En Caragol. At this point we didn't know what type of eaterie this was, we went in and managed to get a table. We realised very quickly this was a very nice restaurant with an extensive range of food, unfortunately we only wanted a lite bite as we were going out to eat in the evening. The waiter came to take our order and we decided just on the meat and cheese plate. When the waiter realised that's all we were having his demeanour and attitude was appalling but took the order pulled a very disapproving face and walked off. The next issue was, we had been given the wine list but didn't want to drink wine as we were also driving, another younger waiter came to see if we would like to order wine we kindly sad no thank you and he snatched the the wine menu in a totally arrogant manner and walked off. Everytime I saw this waiter after this i was given a negative disrespectful stare. The whole time my partner and I were in this restaurant we felt so uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave, and all this just because we wanted a lite because we were...
