Our experience at the l ancora wasn't amazing than I thought. Looking at the Google review, my expectations were quite high. We booked a table via WhatsApp, and that was a good start, easy and quick. When we got there, they gave us a table and left it for about 10 minutes before setting up the table. There were 6 waiters working, and the restaurant wasn't busy yet. When the waiters brought the menu, 2 menus for 5 people, they were in Spanish only and was a bit complicated to understand. The 2 menù looks different, but we understood that it had been "fixed" badly, and the pages weren't in the correct order. Our waiters or anyone of the others 5 didn't speak either English, Italian, or Japanese. Never mind with this language barrier, he brought us another 2 menù with English, French, German, Italian, and Russian. Again, 1 of them had missing pages and all 5 menù we had looked a very tired look. We tried to order, and I did explain that my menù had missing pages and brought the 5th menù. When we finally made our order, we were a bit surprised as we had a wrong order and a missing plate. This can happen when we don't speak the same language, but having the wrong plate brought to us when we clearly pointed at the picture on the menù is a bit strange. Overall, the dinner was OK, the paella 🥘 was a bit too salty, maybe too many cube stock, the fry calamari was excellent, the ring squids were nice, the octopus salad was nice. The wrong plate, anchovies salad, didn't leave any good memories. The price was good, just below €20 each, with 1 glass of wine €1.8 incredible, 1 beer, and 3...
Read moreOur favourite restaurant in Tarragona for a no fuss meal. This is clearly a traditional fishermen place, it is literally by the fishermen’s brotherhood building. Traditional dishes cooked to perfection. We had hake and monkfish croquetas and national squid cooked Andalusian style for starters. As a main we had a really nice fideuá. Sadly we were too full for the desserts, but they looked yummy. It’s plain and simple good quality food cooked with care. Though I would personally not order meat in the fishermen quarters of Tarragona, the table beside us did and it looked really well cooked. The staff were friendly and super attentive, they must finish exhausted because they are constantly making sure you are well served. The terrace is on the sea...
Read morePretty good selection of local dishes, offering a mainly seafood based experience (as you would expect). Decor inside is great, with a nautical theme, and outside offers a great view of the harbour. Service was really good and they looked after us well. Our waiter was especially nice with our little girl. I'm giving 4 stars not 5 because they skimped a little with the ingredients. An example is the Bunyols de Bacallà (salt cod in batter) where they used a potato/cod mix to "pad" out the mixture (real Catalan bunyols have no potato in them). Also the bravas had a few squirts of ketchup/mayo rather than a real bravas sauce. However, the food was pretty good, just not...
