Restaurante La Gabarra — Restaurant in Telde

Upon entering the restaurant, we immediately noticed the strange behavior of the staff. The tables were very dirty and sticky from food and sweet drinks, and flies were flying everywhere, which did not contribute to a pleasant atmosphere. We ordered potatoes, which were served faster than the beer, but unfortunately, they were obviously microwaved, which was audible. However, the biggest disappointment was the mojito I ordered - it didn't even remotely resemble the classic taste of this drink, lacking mint and lime, and the alcohol was completely different. So disappointing. We had had coffee and lunch here a couple of times and it was ok so for our last day in Gran Canaria we thought we’d have dinner. Big mistake. My wife had veal escalope which arrived in 5 minutes flat, dried and chewy it had clearly been cooked hours earlier and had been drying on a warming plate, yuck. I had the Carne Cabra (goats meat). The meat was lukewarm and the potatoes one degree above room temperature. I don’t think they could have taken less care of the meal and presentation if they tried. Such a shame as the location is beautiful on the beach and pseudo boat layout of the restaurant is unique. This is an establishment that needs to pull its socks up a lot higher. Stopped for a beer and nibbles, unfortunately, although there are 'no smoking' signs up a group of smokers arrived, at first one or two of the party made the effort to remove themselves for a fag but once one of them decided to just sit tight the others followed suit. When I explained why we were leaving; a staff member enquired why so soon and so suddenly at the start of our evening, tried to make amends and I believe the owner/manager went to explain to the party about their no smoking policy.

It did put us off that evening, but we will be returning and giving it another go.
