UPDATE: Owner's response is untrue - I DID bring up my unhappiness with both the restaurant and front desk but a simple 'sorry' doesn't cut it when you are pegging yourself as 5 star, hence this review. Had there been an acknowledgement or simply the value of the very poor meal taken off the bill (they all agreed that it had been poor), this review would have been quite different.
Also the cava WAS NOT GRATUITOUS - it was included in my bill.
The fact that the response is to defend rather than try to improve or rectify in any way speaks volumes re. the poor service and food. If anyone thinks that food is 2 Michellin stars then they have never been to a Michellin starred restaurant.
Place is stunning so it’s sad to write such a poor review but this is by no means 5 star and not worth the high prices.
Food is VERY poor and service is worse. We ate in the restaurant both nights - first night we were the only people there: starters were good but mains were so poor we couldn’t eat them. Second night had 4 tables - they forgot our mains and after chasing several times it was delivered - my chicken was so over cooked and my mums food was just basic. The refilling of glasses every time you took a sip was unnerving. Room service - €30 for some Iberian ham - ridiculous. Breakfast was appalling - hardly edible: frozen yet overcooked pastries, hams were inedible and poor selection of fruit. My eggs were pretty poorly cooked. All drinks orders were wrong. We ended up calling it faulty towers.
Before arriving I had contacted them to notify them that we were staying for my mums 80th so could they make a bit of a special effort. I ordered champagne to be in the room - it was very poor cava (no choice provided) and not even a happy birthday was said.
I raised the poor food at the restaurant and the poor food and service when we checked out. There was a half hearted sorry as they handed over the full bill - no removal of the cost of the poor dinner and nothing to compensate us for the poor stay. Very...
Read moreQUICK REVIEW: A real Beautiful Gem in Costa Brava. Outstanding service, a lovely quiet resort away from it all. For a small luxury resort - Excellent amenities. Solid 5.0 Stars. Highly Recommend. YES, we will be back. LONGER DETAILED REVIEW: We travel extensively, but had never been to Mas de Torrent. This luxury hotel is part of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith's collection affiliated with Hyatt. Based on reviews and location, decided to give it a try. SERVICE: From the email arrangements before we arrived, to check in, breakfast service, the Spa, even maid service - all the people here were outstanding. Susana - the Guest Services Manager deserves a special note for her attentiveness to details during our stay. To all the Staff - Great Job! AMENITIES: First of all - this is a quiet, laid back, small resort, but tries to offer bigger resort amenities. They have a gym, Spa, a wonderful breakfast, and an Excellent on-site Restaurant for lunch and dinner. They have several pools - the main pool, one at the Spa, and some rooms have their own private pool area. THINGS TO DO: Biking, hiking, visiting some of the local towns, even just kicking back. Several golf courses and wineries in the area. Restaurants in the area galore. They do offer other activities such as boating, etc. OVERALL: Mas de Torrent is a bit out of the way, we recommend renting a car in Barcelona or Girona and making the trek here by car. Why? There is so much to see and do in Costa Brava, and a car can really help you get access. The only downside we had were the small mosquitos in October. YES, we...
Read morePositives:|-Great location, close to the best beaches of the Costa Brava. ||-Staff were helpful and generally friendly | organising activities including horse riding for our child. ||Negatives:|-We we’re not advised in advance that our dog was not allowed in any of the restaurants (including the breakfast room). Not even on the restaurant terrace. We paid €60 per night for the dog. This is incredibly disappointing and unlike most 5 star dog friendly hotels around Europe. The only place the dog is welcome across the whole hotel is on a separate terrace. Asking for breakfast on the terrace was incredibly difficult and they were less than pleased- the lady at the restaurant reception was rude about the request. During a rainy day, this creates problems. Best not be a dog “friendly” hotel if in fact it’s basically not. ||-The garden suite terrace requires weeding and a proper clean -leaves and paper left on the floor Disappointing that this was not done in advance of our arrival. ||-The garden suites are noisy. We were woken several times by late arrivals from dinner and cars on the driveway. ||-On certain days, the noise from the road is evident. ||-Room service dinner (ordered because of the dog situation), was bland. The pesto pasta could easily pass as store bought. Fries were cold. ||-Temperature in the gym is a sweltering 26c...
