Read moreThe name is deceiving and so are the ratings, don't come here expecting any real Japanese or fusion food which is what we were after. Bizarre menu of pizza, tapas, paella, sushi, burgers, etc. We first received a plate of mashed potato salad as tapas which was bland and over salted, We ordered the cod which had too much garlic and salt over powering a nice piece of fish, the shrimp gyoza felt it came from a package and the cheese pizza which was thankfully good plus the kids liked. The ramen which we came for had to be pre-ordered a day before apparently, several other things on the menu were not available, we were too afraid to order the sushi platter considering we were the only ones seated at 8:30 pm on a Sunday. Originally we wanted to order a bottle of wine then we stuck with beer. They only had three selections on the QR code/digital menu. While they invited us inside the restaurant to look at other bottles, we didn't want to leave our kids at the table unattended. I would say this is a basic Italian restaurant trying to be jack of all trades and failing miserably. Follow-up... this restaurant owner responds to genuine experience concerns with...
Read moreWe were there for dinner and breakfast. Both times I can tell only positive.
For dinner we had among other things the duck and the crocodile (lagarto). The duck is perfectly roasted and the pieces of crocodile (served with fries) also tasted very good. For dessert we had the pear ricotta tart (a dream) and a chocolate cake with liquid center (served with homemade mango ice cream). Perfect!
The day after we went there for breakfast. We each had half a baguette roll topped with tomato, avocado and Serrano ham. and one with sobrasada, each accompanied by café con leche. Actually, I do not like white bread in Andalusia so much, but this one is an exception. When I asked, the owner told me that the bakery across the street makes it for them, according to their own wishes with sourdough. You can taste the difference.
We are in Velez 1-2 a year as we vacation there. Conclusion: The Umami is indeed an asset to the village. There are not the everyday dishes on the menu that you can order everywhere else and the breakfast is also highly recommended. We will definitely go there again on our next vacation.
Thank you :-) Estuvimos allí para cenar y desayunar.
