Mesón Aljama — Restaurant in Vélez-Málaga

Let’s be honest, finding good food in tourist areas often is a bit of a pain. You get the ‘local’ dishes but they just aren’t all that good. Well if you find yourself in Torre Del Mar then turn your back on the Chiringuitas by the beach front and walk a few steps away from the Paseo up the street from the lighthouse. Here on the left side of the road you will find a small family run restaurant that doesn’t look special or tourist like. There are no German or English menus and the only non-Spanish food are 3 pasta dishes… But go there! The owner specializes in matured beef and he knows his business! The piece of grass fed beef from Asturia had been aged for a total of 90 days And melted in the mouth. I have had a lot of good beef but this frankly was the best. Forget Waygu for a minute and go try his Cote du bouef or Entrcote as they call the same cut here in Spain - and follow his recommendations for wine, starters - well everything! We will definitely be coming here again next time we are anywhere near...

Like many restaurants in the area, the food was on the overpriced side. However, it seems to be a common trend, so it's not unique to this establishment.

On the positive side, the food itself was delectable, leaving a lasting impression on my taste buds. The flavors were rich and satisfying, making the high cost somewhat justifiable. The waiter attending to us was warm and helpful, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. That being said, he was the only waiter serving an entire restaurant, which meant there were delays in every step to the process.

However, I couldn't help but notice that the premises lacked a specific design or vibe. This aspect is an area that could use improvement to create a more inviting and harmonious atmosphere that matches the high quality of the food. the food was okeish, but the service is very very bad. avoid at any cost, during lunch time today, 13.06 the "server"was very bad, she ignored us. I asked for the menu of the day card twice and she said ok and did nothing. the girl was just useless, the service was very very bad. I had to ask her for everything 2 days ago, like I order two drinks and she says ok and literally runs away. I had to get up to come to her and ask if we can have a starter, then main and so on. today, 13.06 this girl kept ignoring us and the place was empty. its a pity because the other server, (middle-aged high bloke) was great. so avoid at any cost. and if you really need to eat there, ask for "platos combinados menu". its dishes by the plate, much cheaper just for locals, not in the normal...
