Hidden gem in Ventosa where we tasted out of this world delectable honey based wines, meads (I had the red mead and it was and spirits!! 3rd generation owner in apiculture has recently opened this bar and its natural “oasis” looking like bar area (we were told it’ll open next Monday! Too bad we won’t be here). Mr Alvaro Sr. Was so sweet and kind to teach me about his passion for bees. So knowledgeable about nature and bees! 🐝❣️Thank you Jason for all your guidance about the tasting!!! Yes, a bit out of the Camino but absolutely worth the stop. I even ordered some wines and meads on line to send to my family in Alicante so I would not carry it with me the rest of the Camino. They do shipping to other countries in Europe. We took a detour just off the Camino route to head into this little village for lunch and we were really pleasantly surprised. The lovely lady who has taken on the business served us a lovely three course lunch, fabulous salad, chicken meal, tiramisu and drinks for under €20 each including a bottle of Rioja from the vineyard next door and a beer between 3 of us. The road to the restaurant takes you off the Camino at a stretch where there’s a busy main road and instead is is a pleasant stroll through a little arty walk that’s been created to the bar and restaurants area. Chaotic and rude. Did not understand a word of English or try to help make us be understood with our poor spanish. No menu with prices exist there. We anyways ordered the pilgrims menu and after waiting for the last course for very long, we gave up and wanted to pay and leave. They said they did not know we had ordered the menu, but you will still feel ignored as the owner sits down and talk with locals without looking around. We had to use Google translate to make him understand that we wanted to pay and leave as it was getting late. Food was okay but very little. No water...
