After having eating at Monsoon since it first open at the beach area we have seen its quality decline till it hit rock bottom last night. One of my children dishes, the Beef Noodle Soup was plain non edible with watery strange tasting broth and no sight of pak choi, bean sprouts or coriander; literally noodles and pieces of beef on a broth we all tasted and agreed on how foul it was. The Kao Pad Gai, a fried rice with chicken and veggies was bland but the vegetables had a good smokey flavor; and the other two dishes seemed to be more of a Chinese dish with heavy oyster type sauce than a light and fresh Thai stir fry. The Pad Taleh with scallops and prawns is what I always order, a fresh dish in the past has become a plate loaded with oyster type sauce. As I am not sure if it is a new recipe with scallops, I did ask if the cook was new, was told not. Either way, a dish I would expect at a Chinese restaurant. Exactly the same problem with my husband’s Chicken Cashew Nuts. Disappointing dishes, not bad, but not what they used to be. Unfortunately, even the glass of wine I asked for, an Albariño, was exchanged for a Verdejo, a very acidic distinctive cheaper option. After I questioned it, the glass was exchanged for the correct wine and it seems all boiled down to not wanting to open a new bottle just for a glass, though I graciously conceded that the last of the Albariño bottle must have gone bad and become acidic (not vinegary) so everyone could save face. Not an enjoyable meal and though we skipped dessert as Brownies were not available, the ice cream selections have always been excellent,...
Read moreThe people serving were lovely. But this restaurant has a closed minded owner with outdated views. "Can we have a knife please?" so my 93 year old father can cut his large pieces of duck meat. "No. A knife means war in Thailand". I explained I know that, and can be have a knife please. "No." Ridiculous, get over yourself.
Then we asked for some carafes of tap water for the kids who have been on the beach all day. - "No, it's not our policy". We had to buy bottled water. When I complained, the barman was very friendly and explained it's not their policy. He couldn't help. Then the owner appeared - "No, it's not our policy. And you shouldn't give your children the local water, no one drinks it". My parents have lived here for 20 years. Everyone drinks the water out of the tap. We pushed, but still she didn't relent. Estupida. We were eating handsomely and drinking wine by the bottle - it's very short sighted to behave like this. And don't customers how to raise their children. And don't lie to us about what the locals drink.
Won't go back, nor will my family.
Good food, but don't expect to be treated like they...
Read moreOver-cooked fish. Waitress with bad attitude. Been coming here for years. Food is good but less attention to quality these days. What I find so bad is that they want you to keep the cutlery used for your starter for your main course. That’s pretty disgusting in a hot climate, not to mention cheap in a restaurant that knows how to charge. This evening (the restaurant wasn’t even a third full) I told the waitress no. Her reaction was insistent that I keep it. I told her no. She then told me that ‘el jefe’ insists on this. I told her ‘el jefe’ either wants customers or he doesn’t. After this, my food was practically thrown at me with a moody face to follow it. When I offered her empty plates to remove from our tiny table she turned her back and went to another, after very clearly seeing me. Fish was over-cooked and dry. Chicken wings like something from the fish and chip shop. Quality has seriously gone down. Poor staff and food reflects poor management. Javea needs a new and...
